The BAU With Their Newest Member (Kate Callahan)
I dont typically review "Criminal Minds" even though I've seen a WHOLE LOTTA episodes. Last night was the season 10 premiere so I felt obliged.
We meet Special Agent Kate Callahan (Jennifer Love Hewitt). She previously worked in sex crimes and is nobody's fool. I think she'll be a great addition to the BAU. Plus we could use some more estrogen on the team (since Blake and Prentiss are gone). She joins our regulars-- Hotchner, Reid, Garcia, Morgan, Rossi and JJ. Reid is still recovering from being shot. Garcia is still suffering from PTSD after shooting someone.
"X" opens with a boy finding a torso in an abandoned building in the desert. They have found 3 torsos to date. The killer is dubbed "The Mad Butcher of Bakersfield".

Mind If We Come In And Search For Body Parts?
The team enters the world of acrotomophiliacs. Sorry, I may have spelled that incorrectly. These fetishists are apparently sexual aroused by body parts. Are they aroused by just the body part or the amputee or both? I have no idea. Moving right along. There is a black market on the internet where various parts (and/or the person attached to them) are auctioned off to the highest bidder. I love you internet but this is one of those topics that I really dont want to know any specifics about.

You Are Definitely A Freak. You're Just Not Our Unsub.
At first it looks like a quiet married man (Kerr Smith) is the predator since he has a leg in the locker in his garage. But nope, it couldnt be him since the hour isn't up yet. They follow another lead (an anatomy professor) but he turns out to be the butcher's first victim instead.

Angie Is Having A REALLY Bad Day
Meanwhile a woman (Angie) is kidnapped by the real killer (Steve Parkett). He amputates her arm (oh dear). But afterwards she very smartly befriends him. He begins to trust her and takes her for a walk. She runs away and is able to escape. He almost ambushes Kate but is shot by Hotch. Case closed... or is it? Kate and Hotch dont think so. Looks like we're looking at a longer story arc than just a case of the week.

Yep That Was A Little Too Easy
At the end of the day Kate goes home to her teenage daughter. She hasnt seen her in two days. How would a person have a normal family life after dealing with such horrors at work each day?
Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). An OK episode for a premiere. Looks like JLH will be a good addition to the show. As I've said previously I've watched many, many "Criminal Minds" episodes. I would like the the BAU team fleshed out a little more though. Despite all their troubles, it seems they're a little too well adjusted to the horrific things that happen around them.
