Sonya and Marco: Cleaning Up Crime At The Juarez/ El Paso Border

So what did you think of the season 2 finale? Given the show's ratings, this might also be the series finale. If we dont see "The Bridge" again, most of the major plot threads were nicely tied up with "Jubilex". There were no major cliffhangers and no characters were left in peril. Here's the overview:

Eva And A Pre-Shaven Linder

Linder miraculously lives. I thought he was a goner for sure after he was shot by Robles (and after that comment about not wanting to shave off his beard). Linder apparently walks out of the hospital, across the border and into Eva's arms.  Those two kids definitely deserve a happy ending.

Frye and Adriana meet with Buckley's CIA boss. She's been playing him all along. He is killed and it's made to look like a robbery. Hank arrives at the scene and calls the reporters. He tell them to write up the story. Will they do any damage to the CIA or is a waste to even try?

Marco calls Sonya. Remember last week Galvan escaped with Marco, Romina and a henchman into the mountains. Sonya comes to get them in the truck. They take a badly injured Romina to the hospital. Marco tells Sonya to stay with her. Next he takes Fausto and to the police station where Robles confronts them. Marco says he's going to book the prisoners. Robles apparently just walks out of the station (and no one stops him). The prosecutor later offers Marco the job of captain but he declines.

I Almost Felt Sorry For Her (Till I Remembered She Was A Cold Blooded Child Killer)

Cerisola comes to the hospital to see his daughter. Sonya tells him of Marco's plan to bring in Galvan alive. She wants to know where Eleanor is. Next we see Cesar driving Eleanor and her father to a deserted area. He says he will wait for her but Eleanor declines. She drags her pantless father to an oak tree. She confronts him about raping her as a child underneath that oak tree. We see the acorns on the ground that she referenced earlier. She taunts him but he's tied by the neck. He eventually gets free and tries to strangle Eleanor.

Just then Sonya arrives. She tells Daddy Dearest to stop but he keeps on chocking Eleanor so Sonya if forced to shoot him. She she calls Marco. Sonya says him she'll be fired for what she did. They contemplate what to do with Eleanor and the body. The camera pans up through the oak tree and then zooms out farther. We're reminded that in the overall scheme of life, these people's actions are really insignificant.

They Make An Odd Couple But A Good Team

Random Thoughts:
  • Given that Fausto is the big baddy of season 2, his capture seemed pretty easy. I thought he vowed not to be taken alive?
  • Hank manages to recover from a nearly fatal wound very quickly. He's one tough old bird.
  • Sonya seems to have mysteriously recovered from much of the Asperger's Syndrome that plagued her in season 1. I assume that was done to make her more likable?
  • And even Cesar somehow manages to survive. I wasnt sure after that bloodbath back at Red Ridge.
  • Eleanor (the frumpy Mennonite "cleaner" for the drug cartel) is one of the most original characters I've seen on TV in some time. Although she never went completely bat shit crazy and wiped out half the cast (like I was hoping), I still very much enjoyed watching her. Congrats to Franka Potente for doing such a great job!
  • What is the overall message of the show? I think it's we're all just little cogs in the big wheel of life. It doesnt matter if Marco, Sonya or Hank capture Galvan or Eleanor. It wont change much. The system will continue to run just fine without them.

Yes These Two Are Brothers In Real Life

Favorite Quotes:
  • "Ill take him home to the oak tree."-Eleanor to Cerisola about her father.
  • "Killing a cop is bad luck."- Buckley about Sonya. Too bad someone didnt think the same about him.
  • Fausto: "You did it (brought him to jail). Now what?" Marco: "Well you'll live the rest of your life in a cage." Fausto: "And you'll be a hero." Marco: "Im no hero".

I Just Love This Picture

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A satisfying end to the season. I was hoping there would be more character deaths but we only got Buckley (who definitely deserved it). So what will they do with Eleanor?  Will the newspaper article do anything to bring down the drug cartels and the corrupt CIA element? Will Adriana get back together with Lucy? Will Sonya retire her jacket and get some new clothes? Will Marco get back with his family? Will Cesar finish that vampire erotica book?
