"Constantine" I still dont know what I think of you but I'm still here. It so far reminds me of a scary "Warehouse 13" or "X Files" with demons. The addition of Zed was a good one. It's not "must watch TV" for me right now but its "maybe watch if there's nothing else on".
In episode 2 "The Darkness Beneath" we meet Zed (who is a clairvoyant and compulsive sketcher of John). So far,I'm liking Zed much better that Liz.
An Accidental On Purpose Meeting
Thanks to the scry map, John is off to the small coal mining town of Heddwich Pennsylvania. Chas refuses to go because, ya know, history. Strange things are happening in the mines. One wife beater of a miner (Lannis) gets flame broiled in the shower. Interesting visual.
Why Do I Get The Feeling Someone Is Watching Me?
Her New Band Should Be Called "Leisha & The Knockers"
Oh yeah, there's a priest but nobody cares. There were no sightings of Manny this week. At the end of the scene we're not sure if Zed is a good guy or a bad guy (as she mysteriously looks on while John sleeps).

This New Scented Candle Is Not What I Expected
In "The Devil's Vinyl" Constantine, Zed and Chas are in Chicago looking for a record. It contains the voice of "The First Of The Fallen". If you listen to it, you will do horrible things and/or die. They visit an elderly man that tells them the story of a Blues musician who sold his soul to the Devil. After seeing what happened, he walled the "acetate" up in the old recording studio. Where it remained safely until a woman dug it up. It kills one of Constantine's friends (which is how they get involved in the case).
Papa Midnite Wants That Record
We meet Papa Midnite. He's a voodoo priest and I'm not sure what else. He of course wants the record for his own purposes. He leaves Constantine to die (he gave him an anticoagulant and then cut him). Zed arrives in the nick of time. Just for the record, Papa Midnite is not related to Papa Legba (from "American Horror Story: Coven") is he?
And This Is Why I Listen To NPR
We find out that the woman (Jasmine) traded her soul to a soul broker to save her husband's life. He's dying of cancer. He told her that if she got him the record, he would nullify her contract. Team Constantine find the and make him eat the contract. Then Constantine goes to a record studio and stops the record from playing. He recites some spell over it and sends the acetate back to Hell. That seemed pretty easy. Why didnt he do that to start with?
In related news: Constantine still doesnt trust Zed but she is handy to have around. I'm interested to find out more about her past. We also get a glimpse inside Constantine's hideout. Chas reveals there are many, many rooms hidden inside. Manny The Angel shows up in the hospital to take the elder man's life and again to chat with Constantine when he's on the verge of death.
Favorite Quotes:
- "There are those who pray for you and those who prey on you. And no matter how careful you are, sometimes, you just can't tell the difference."- Zed.
- "What kind of people are motivated by these things?"- Zed to John.
Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Two OK episodes but I'm still not 100% sold on "Constantine". Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
