12 Monkeys Episode 8 Review: Jones Gets Ready To Kick Ass

In "Yesterday" we spend most of our time in the future (which is only appropriate since last week we spent most of our time in the past). Jones was previously at a government facility called Spearhead. They were searching for a cure but the virus mutated at least twice since the outbreak. Colonel Foster lost his wife. He goes crazy and kills all the other military brass and takes over the base. Jones escapes to join Project Splinter.

Ramse & Sam

Now Jones needs a new manifold for the time machine. Whitley travels to Spearhead (where they have an extra). Ramse joins him. Whitley's father is the head of security at Spearhead. They have a frosty relationship. Ramse runs into his old girlfriend Helena. They each thought the other was dead. She introduces Ramse to his son Sam.

Meanwhile in 2015 Cassie travels to Chechnya to confirm that Cole is indeed dead. Aaron stays home. I still think he's a baddie. We know he is alive but injured in the rubble after the US government bombed the building in an attempt to keep the virus from escaping.

Dont Trust A Guy Who Reads Scripture Over A Nuclear Core

While Whitley and Ramse are at Spearhead, Jones tries to retrieve Cole but the time machine is completely shot. She heads to Spearhead as well since it's their only hope. Foster greets her. She wants his core. He wants to have dinner instead. Foster says they can find a cure. Jones says he has nothing to show for his efforts. All Foster did was find a cure for the virus of 2033 but that was BEFORE it mutated. Nothing was accomplished in Jones' book. Since Foster wont agree to give them the core without Jones returning to Spearhead, she tells Ramse and Whitley they must take it by any means necessary. Ramse questions her decision but she is adamant. Hopefully Whitley is on Jones' side since he previously left to join her. And you people should know by now that Foster can NOT be trusted.

Better Save That Respirator Cassie. You're Going To Need It.

Cassie arrives at the site just as Cole is being raised up to the surface by a rescue party. We see an emotional look at her face. We think she will be reunited with Cole. Nope it's a psych out. She sees the site is completely destroyed. This reassures her that the world is safe. However, when Cole reaches top side he asks a girl the year. It is 2017. Cole has jumped forward two years and is now in the middle of the first virus outbreak. You got me "12 Monkeys". I didnt see that coming.

Disaster Has Not Been Averted

Favorite Quotes:

  • "Mr Cole is the priority, then we worry about the core."- Jones.
  • "My father says to ask you, does anyone know you're here?"- girl to Cole. That's not the type of question you want to hear when you're buried in rubble.
  • Foster: "Katerina sent someone back in time?" Whitley: "She did." Foster: "Then how are we still having this conversation now?"
  • "There is no cure and there never will be."- Jones to Foster.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Not as much action as other episodes but we learned some of how Jones ended up at Project Splinter. Jones is a mysterious woman so I'm interested to learn more. And let's face it, we knew Cole wasnt dead or the series would be over.
