CSI:Cyber Episodes 1 Thru 3 Reviews: Wheres The Delete Button? (Series Premiere)

Unless you've been living under a rock you know the basic premise of "CSI". Its a crime procedural. Each week the team uses cutting edge forensics and good old fashioned brain power to crack the case in less than sixty minutes (including commercials). While the other versions of "CSI" are in different locations (Miami, New York) "Cyber" focuses exclusively on high tech/internet crimes.

One of the major challenges of all the CSI spinoffs is keeping the audience engaged. At times there's not much to look at. Sure there's usually a dead body and a list of suspects. But part of each episode is dedicated to people putting stuff in petri dishes, swirling around colored fluids in vials, and analyzing DNA samples. Boring stuff. "Cyber" has it even worse because it doesnt have any pretty lab equipment. Instead we're stuck with a bunch of computer screens and people talking to each other via Skype.

If there's nothing to look at, we need the chemistry of the cast to keep us coming back. Unfortunately I'm not seeing it with the "Cyber" team. Sure I like Patricia Arquette. She does her best to keep the story moving but I dont care about any of the other cast members (and yes I know that's James Van Der Beek and Bow Wow).

The premiere episode "Kidnapping 2.0" really needed to be more attention grabbing. Instead we see babies being kidnapped via their baby monitors. I'm sure that's troubling to parents of infants everywhere but to be honest, I dont care. I dont have a baby or a baby monitor. Episode two "CMND:\Crash" involved someone turning off the brakes of a roller coaster causing multiple death and injuries. Again, not the most exciting. Episode three "Killer En Router" makes you afraid of ride share apps like Uber and Lyft. While this really could happen, the story line was ridiculous. The guy is killing riders because his child died due to driver negligence? Why not kill the drivers instead of the passengers then? No one asked me though...

Grade: 2 Monsters (out of 5). A tired retread of the CSI franchise. In their defense, making a interesting series about computer hacking is a rough bill to fill. I was bored and I work with computers all day every day. CSI, please ditch the computer crimes and stick to solving murders. PS: Patricia Arquette, you deserve a better show.
