The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 14 Review: Orange Crush Equals Death In The Zombie Apocalypse

"Twice As Far" is a typical "run" episode in which several of the characters take a road trip. Daryl, Rosita and Denise search for medical supplies. Doctor Denise has little experience outside of Alexandria. I seriously question why they would let the community's ONLY doctor go on a mission... but no asked me. PS Daryl really cant drive a stick shift (which is surprising).

Meanwhile Eugene and Abraham head to a factory. Eugene plans to replenish their ammo supply by manufacturing bullets. Eugene has has a new hairstyle (well it's just in a ponytail). Is he a changed man? Nope. He's still the same putz for chastising Abraham for saving his life (after it looked like a smelt covered walker would bite him). Eugene tells Abraham "you've outlived your usefulness to me" and dismisses him. Abe leaves in a huff.

The other team locates the apothecary and much needed drugs. As they head back to town, Denise spies a cooler in an abandoned car. She opens the door and is almost bitten by a car-pool-mom-zombie. Denise somehow manages to stab the walker in the head and retrieves an orange soda. They're Tara's favorite.

Denise tells Daryl he reminds her of her dead twin brother. She talks about living life to it's fullest, never telling Tara she loves her, and some other stuff I can't remember. We know something bad is about to happen. When the speechifying begins on "TWD", someone always dies. Sure enough, she is killed by an arrow straight through her head. Ouch! The bad part is it takes several seconds for Denise's brain to register she's dead. She carries on talking and then boom. She's gone.

The Saviors are back along with Dwight (who has a half burned off face). He used Daryl's crossbow to kill Denise. Dwight is obviously NOT a good shot since he was aiming for Daryl instead. The Saviors force Rosita and Daryl to surrender or they will kill Eugene. Things are looking grim. That is until Eugene bits Dwight in the crotch... HARD. Abe is waiting in the woods. There's a firefight and all our guys (minus poor Denise) escape. Eugene is shot but has actually done something useful for a change.

Back in Alexandra, Abe visits an injured Eugene and delivered what might be the best line of the entire series. He says "You know how to bite a dick Eugene". It turns out that Eugene has some mad (and unorthodox) skills.

Abe and Sasha settle in for a nice dinner. Rosita and Spencer look like they might hook up. Carol heads back out on her own (after leaving a note for Tobin). I'm still NOT buying this sudden change in character for Carol. Yes, she's done a lot of bad things. But she's also saved countless lives many times over. Being nonviolent wont cause any less bloodshed. I wish she would have never listened to Morgan. Is this the end of Carol?

I assume the rest of the cast we didnt see this week will be back for the two remaining episodes. They're going to need all the help they can get to fight off Negan and the rest of the Saviors. Carol, please come back IMMEDIATELY!

Favorite Quotes:

  • "You know how to bite a dick Eugene."- Abraham.
  • "You've outlived your usefulness to me"- Eugene to Abraham.
  • "I've changed. I've adapted. I've become a survivor."- Eugene.
  • "I'm going like I always should have."- Carol.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Only two episodes to go this season. Now that the Saviors know where Alexandria is, all hell is going to break loose. Will Carol again rescue everyone (or God forbid sacrifice herself)?

Denise's death was painful to watch but not a shock. This is how Abraham passed in the comics. The average life span of lesbians in TV/movies is very short. This is the second major death to the past two weeks. See Twitter and #BuryYourGays for more details. Doctor Dense definitely deserved better. What will poor Tara do now? I worry she will be the next to go (since her character has never been fully developed).
