Colony Episode 8 Review: In From The Cold

The surprises keep on coming with "Colony". And that's why I enjoy the show so much. "In From The Cold" opens with Carlos working in some sort of facility. The workers (read slaves) toil, eat and sleep without saying much of anything. At night Carlos looks out to see the Earth in the distance. It turns out the Factory is actually on the moon. What are they trying to extract? Whatever it is, it seems hazardous to their health. One guy coughs up blood at dinner and is hauled away.

Meanwhile Bram and his teacher use his telescope to check out the moon. They see something going on up there but it's too hazy to make out. The aliens are nowhere to be seen. I fear Bram's youth and trustful nature is going to put the Bowmans in big trouble.

Helena tells Proxy Snyder that the Chief Minister of the Pacific Region is coming for an inspection. She chides Snyder on his decision NOT to rule by fear (saying none of the other blocs do it his way). I originally though Snyder was a jerk but if he's a softie, I shudder to think how others are being treating.

Katie requests a meeting with Rachel. She wants out before her children are left without a mother. Rachel's two teenage boys know about her involvement with the Resistance and even serve as lookouts.

Quayle calls Will and asks him to meet privately.  Jennifer uses the rolodex to find out Quayle is ex CIA. There sure are a lot of shady military types running around town. Quayle will sell out the others in his cell (if the Occupation helps him leave LA and gives him some supplies). Quayle spills the beans on Broussard and Katie. Meanwhile another member of the Resistance is meeting Broussard in a market to give him the intel on the visiting dignitary. Red Hats snipers appear on the roof. Katie (who is surviving as lookout) warns the others. But it's too late. Rachel is shot dead (while Broussard escapes).

Will returns to the safe house where Quayle is being held. He shoots Quayle (and the Red Hat guards). Why? I assume it's because there's no chance Quayle can incriminate Katie. Now Beau has something on Will though (since he knows what really happened).

Katie later sees  Rachel and her two sons hanging from a bridge with "terrorist" signs around their neck. That was a powerful scene. I am reminded of what Helena to Snyder at the beginning of the episode. It was a quote by George Orwell--  "If you want a vision of the future imagine a boot stomping on a human face... forever".

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "Colony" continues to keep me interested with characters dying left and right. That really helps up the stakes ala "Game Of Thrones" style. There are only two episodes left this season. How will it all end? And when will we get to see the aliens? Not that I have to see them this soon. I'm really enjoying watching how Will and Katie try to get their son home and keep each other alive (while all the time lying to each other).
