GMonsters 10 Most Intriguing TV Characters Of 2014 (The Women)

What is about a TV character that just reaches out and grabs ya? Obviously it's great acting and great writing but sometimes there's just a little something extra. Below is my list of the 10 most intriguing women on television this year.

Note: The men's edition will follow That way I get to pick 20 of my favorites instead of just 10. Also check out my top 10 TV shows of 2014 here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/2014/12/gmonsters-top-10-television-shows-of.html

10. Maura/Mort Pfefferman- Jeffrey Tambor- Transparent- Amazon- Maura is in the process of transitioning from male to female and is informing all her relatives (ex wife Shelly and three adult children Sarah, Josh and Ali). To say the rest of the family is a mess would be an understatement. I expect Jeffrey Tambor to win all the awards this year for his quiet, honest, heartbreaking portrayal. See my "Transparent" reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/Transparent

9. Carol Peletier- Melissa McBride- The Walking Dead- AMC- Of all the survivors Carol is the person who has grown the most over the past five seasons. Once an abused wife, she is now the backbone of the group (doing whatever needs to be done no matter how painful). The scene with Lizzy and the flowers was a major tear jerker. AMC, do not even think about getting rid of Carol or the zombies and I will surround your offices and stare meanly at you. See my "The Walking Dead" reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/The%20Walking%20Dead

8. Vanessa Ives- Eva Green- Penny Dreadful- HBO- Vanessa is mysterious, tough and vulnerable all at the same time. We learn some of her back story in season 1 but I look forward to learning more next year. Eva Green really should have been nominated for some awards. Check out the seance scene for an example of her stellar acting chops. See my "Penny Dreadful" reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/Penny%20Dreadful

7. Annalise Keating- Viola Davis- How To Get Away With Murder- ABC- I must profess to being simultaneously frigthened and attracted to Annalise. She is a woman who can cut you down to size with one look. She's as touch as nails but her main weakness is her philanderer of a husband. Viola Davis is a force of nature and will be taking home some statues this year. See my "How To Get Away With Murder" reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/How%20To%20Get%20Away%20With%20Murder

6. Sarah, Cosima, Allison, Beth, Helena, etc, etc, etc- Tatianna Maslany- Orphan Black- BBC America- In case you didnt already know, Tatianna Maslany plays every major character on this show. Each clone has their own distinct personality and mannerisms. I have no idea how they are able to edit this show so seamlessly and how Tatianna has not died of exhaustion. I cant wait to learn more about the clones in season 3. See my "Orphan Black" reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/Orphan%20Black

5. Madison O'Donnell- Millie Brown- Intruders- BBC America- I'm not usually scared by nine year olds but Millie Brown was truly frightening. She's able to go from vulnerable child to menacing killer in 2 seconds flat. "Intruders" was also my pick for best TV show of 2014. See my "Intruders" reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/Intruders

4. Wendy Beauchamp (ie Aunt Wendy The Cat)- Madchen Amick-  Lifetime- Wendy is a free spirit but is fiercely loyal to her family. Sure she gets around but give her a break. She's like 400 years old. Plus she's a cat and has the snappiest one liners on the show. WoEE was recently canceled by Lifetime. Let's hope Aunt Wendy and WoEE have some more life left in them. Wouldn't this be a great show for NetFlix? See my "Witches Of East End" reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/Witches%20of%20East%20End

3. Dot & Bette Tattler- Sarah Paulson- American Horror Story- FX- This is actually a twofer since Dot & Bette are conjoined twins. Sarah Paulson has become a staple of AHS. She had a small part in "Murder House". Then became the main character in "Asylum" as well as in "Coven". Now she's back for "Freak Show". I'm beginning to think Sarah can do anything. Did you see her rendition of "Criminal"? Excellent! Will Dot & Bette survive the season? The odds are not good but I keep hoping. See my "American Horror Story" reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/American%20Horror%20Story

2. Stahma Tarr- Jaime Murray Defiance- Just when I thought I couldnt love Jaime Murray any more, she shows up as Stahma Tarr (the subservient Castithan wife of Datak) on "Defiance". Casti wives must know their place and Stahma's place is on top. I wont ruin the plot for you but suffice to say it's the quiet ones ya have to watch out for. Also the Casti concepts of nudity and personal space are quite interesting. See my "Defiance" reviews here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/Defiance

1. Regina/The Evil Queen- Lana Parrilla- Once Upon A Time- ABC- Regina is my number one pick by a wide margin. Lana Parrilla has taken what could have been a very one dimensional character and turned her into someone we truly care about. You know something special is going on when many viewers (including myself) root for the main villain instead of the good guys.

Maybe it's the fact that Lana has completely different voices, looks and mannerisms for teenage FTL (fairy tale land) Regina, Evil Queen Regina and Storybrooke Regina. Maybe it's the fact that she chews up the scenery and anyone near her. Maybe it's because she's stunningly beautiful (which is obviously true). Maybe it's because despite not having a heart for much of the series (it was locked away for safe keeping) she feels more deeply than anyone else. She loved Daniel (before her mother killed him) and she loves her adopted son Henry  Maybe it's because I keep hoping against hope for #SwanQueen. Whatever "it" is, Regina and Lana Parrilla have it in spades. I would be content to watch her read the phone book (if we still had phone books).
