Defiance Season 3 Episode 10 Review: Guess Whos Coming To Dinner

I was worried that after General Rahm's defeat, Defiance would return to a calm (and boring) place. Boy, was I wrong. In "When Twilight Dims The Sky Above" one armed Datak arrives back in town but he brings the real VC with him. It turns out Tak never represented their interests. Vice Chancellor Silora Voske (played by the always wonderful Wendy Crewson) says the VC wants to live in harmony. There's only one problem. The orbiting Omec harvester ship makes the other Votans very nervous.

I Hear Australia Is Beautiful This Time Of Year

T'evgin wants Stahma to run away to Australia with him where she will become mother to his Omec family. This plan is cut short when Stahma learns Datak is still alive. Stahma is grateful for the out since she has no plans to move to Australia.

The Tarrs have sexy times. Their marital bliss is interrupted by Amanda. She tells Stahma to get T'evgin to the dinner with Voske or she will put a bullet in Datak's head.

Insane In The Membrane

Meanwhile Nolan has gone completely bat shit thanks to the arctech still in his head. He's hallucinating his old self from the Pale Wars. Irisa seeks help from Yewll but she's busy with her own problems. Kindzi's control stem is making Yewll during strange things. She eventually awakens Kindzi from her sleeping pod. Uh oh.

Dinner Is Served

It's time for the dinner. Everybody important is there. T'evgin arrives (so Stahma was successful). He looks smashing in his purple outfit. Just then Kindzi and Yewll arrive. Kindzi says "I'm happy I didnt miss dinner" and we know who is on the menu. T'evgin tells Stahma to hide at home and for Datak to protect her. Just before Kindzi is ready to chomp down, she is upstaged by Nolan. He comes in with guns a blazing and shoots Voske dead (saying she was armed but it was only a cup of coffee). Bummer. I was hoping she would be around longer.. Have Nolan's actions started yet another war between the VC and humans?

See This Is Why I Avoid Social Gatherings

The VC chase Nolan down. He and Irisa are to be transported to Brazil. Remember they cant be too far away from each other or their brains will explode. Amanda sneaks Irisia some cash and tells her to head for Antarctica. We know they wont be gone long since they're main characters.

Well This Cant Be Good

And we see that T'evgin finally finds Kindzi. She quickly gets the upper hand. She calls him weak and says he is denying their true nature. She controls him via that red drone thingy he used on her previously. Oh no. This is bad for T'evgin and especially bad for the citizens of Defiance.

Points to Ponder:

  • So is it true that Casti females have pink blood while males have blue.
  • Fun fact: Sturje (the Casti head of Voske's security team) is actually Trenna Keating's (Doc Yewll) IRL husband Alden Adair.
  • Andina (the Tarr's servant) attends the party but is treated poorly by Datak (as usual).
  • Is Kendzi going to unleash the rest of the Omec so they can devour the inhabitants of Defiance?

Favorite Quotes:

  • "I've been upstaged"- Kindzi about Nolan raining on her dinner buffet. Absolute best line of the night!
  • "It's OK when I say it"- Voske refers to Datak as a "haint".
  • "Frickin' Omec bitch"- Yewll about Kindzi.
  • "Each side has ample reason to despise the other for atrocities committed long ago and far away. But here and now there is no reason for hatred and every reason to seek peace."- Voske (before she was killed).
  • T'evgin: "You must protect Stahma." Datak: "To the death."
  • Nolan: "Ready to see the world kiddo?" Irisa: "One last adventure."

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). An excellent episode. The snark was high as was the action. There are only three episodes left this season so hat will happen is anyone's guess.
