Fear The Walking Dead Season 2 Episodes 14-15 Reviews: Travis Finally Grows A Pair (Season Finale)

As you know, I've complained about "Fear The Walking Dead" from the beginning. Most of the characters are unsympathetic. The story lines are a real snoozer. And there are a times a surprising shortage of zombies. I have debated quitting "FTWD" several times. But "Wrath" and "North" (both of which aired at the same time) renewed my hope in the show. We FINALLY get what we've been waiting for all season. In fact, "Wrath" is the best episode to date.

Last week the bromigos (minus Chris) appeared at the front gate of the hotel. Madison was unaware of their true identities. Travis later recognizes Brandon and Derek. He demands to know what happened to Chris. They at first tell him Chris was killed instantly in a car accident (after he feel asleep at the wheel). They buried him under a tree. LIES!

Travis knows better. He locks them in a room. They shot an injured Chris in the head as he tried to crawl away from the crash. Travis snaps and processed to alternately beat and stomp Derek and Brandon to death. Great scene! The dudes got EXACTLY what they deserved. They were a danger to everyone around them. Remember when Chris said Travis was too soft to survive the zombie apocalypse? Maybe there's hope for him after all.

Thanks to Madison's previous "no violence" rule, Travis must leave the hotel. That and Oscar was collateral damage during the bro fight. Also Alicia stabbed Andres to protect Travis. The family flees before anyone else gets killed. Maddie asks Strand to join them but he stays behind. Will we see Strand next season? I hope so because he's one of the best parts of the show. Madison, Travis, and Alicia head to the supermarket. Remember Maddie was there previously. They next head to the Colonia in search of Nick. More on that later.

Ofelia finally makes it the US border. Things do not go as planned. A guy shoots at her. She hides behind a tree. The bad news is she's captured. The good news is she's gotten pretty badass. And who else besides me thought the guy was going to be Daniel? Instead it's Unser from "Sons Of Anarchy".

Over at the Colonia Nick knows Marco's crew will attack soon. They are no longer happy with the weekly oxy trade. They want everything for themselves. Nick begs the others to leave but no one will listen to him. They still trust Alejandro to be their savior. But Ale isn't going to be around much longer. He is bitten but a walker and eventually confesses to Nick that he is not immune. It was all a BIG LIE.

Luciana tells Nick to run away like a scared little boy. She will stay with Alejandro and defend their home. Nick at first leaves but sees helicopters in the distance. He turns back. Fast forward to when the drug cartel. The village  is empty. Only Alejandro is left. He has a little surprise in store. He manages to move the bus which releases all the dead relatives. The drug gang is quickly defeated by zombies. That seemed WAY too easy to me.

Maddy and family arrive right before Alejandro passes. He tells them where Nick is headed. Madison thanks him and gives him mercy ala "Z Nation" style.

We see Nick and company walking towards the border. Instead of being welcomed they're fired upon. Everyone scatters. Nick and Luciana are captured (and she is shot). Are these people some sort of militia? If so, Nick has made a bad situation even worse. Way to go Nick!

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). The best episodes of the series. Travis finally grows a pair and shows what he was capable of. Extra bonus points for a walker biting off a guy's nose and for Nick pushing his thumbs into a zombie's brain.I assume everyone (Nick, Ofelia, Madison, Travis, Alicia) will reunite soon since they're all near the border. Is there any chance "FTWD" can learn from it's previous mistakes and start season 3 with a bang? I'm not going to get my hopes up.
