Colony Season 2 Episodes 1-3 Reviews: End The Occupation (Season Premiere)

The season 2 premiere of "Colony" gave us a look back at what happened during day 1 of the alien invasion (AKA "The Arrival"). I originally thought the wall might be the work of the government or certain powerful individuals. After seeing "Eleven Thirteen" it was definitely aliens... and they had been planning the attack for some time. Seeing spaceships drop the segments of the wall into place and connect them with some high tech welding was a treat. Cool scene!

We also learn that the previously menacing Snyder (he's grown on us since then) was a lowly purchasing manager at a sub par college in his pre-invasion days. Two mysterious men visit him regarding his skill set (which involves stealing money from the school). He's just the man to help usher in the aliens and serve as Proxy Governor of the LA bloc.

Broussard realizes the invasion is underway and narrowly escapes the fate of many other military personnel when their gathering place was blown to smithereens. My money is on Broussard. He's a bad ass.

Back in present day, Will gets to the Santa Monica bloc (thanks to travel approval by Snyder). He finds Charlie and a bunch of other kids mugging/stealing for a low life. Charlie is very afraid of the guy. Will eventually kills him and heads home with Charlie and his old partner. Will and Devon had been on the outs before the invasion (he thought she was on the take) but she comes through for him here.

Bram is tearfully reunited with Katie after his capture at the end of season 1 for going over the wall. He escapes the Factory by lying about his age and that he works construction. After he fall from grace last year, Snyder is now the head of the labor camp where Bram is being held. If Bram helps Snyder get what he wants (maybe both of them can get out alive).

Will, Charlie, Devon and some others try to climb over the wall and back into the Los Angeles bloc. A drone arrives and kills Devon (why did she die so soon?) and the two red shirts.  There is nothing left of them but some blood splatter. Brutal stuff! It then turns its camera on Will. It looks like he might be a goner but for some reason it leaves. Charlie has a touching reunion with his family.

Their joy may be short lived because Jennifer is getting the squeeze from her new boss at Homeland Security. Deliver Broussard or she's out. Katie says she doesnt know where he is but if Jennifer lets her take Grace to her sister Maddie and boyfriend Nolan's in the Green Zone. I worry about Maddie's alliances though since she just participated in the "Greatest Day" ceremony. Katie will then turn herself in. Me thinks someone is going to have to kill Jennifer before she lets anyone know about the Resistance.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Sure "Colony" is on the surface a sci fi show about an alien invasion. But the hook of the show is how people and specifically the Bowman family try to cope under these circumstances. I continue to love the relationship between Will and Katie. Will their marriage and the Bowman family survive these dire circumstances?
