"Marco Polo" are OK but not quite as stellar. Unfortunately "Glitch" is in the later category. If I hadnt seen the French series "Les Revenants" and the American adaptations "The Returned" and "Resurrection", I might feel differently. "Les Revenants" set such a high bar (it was my favorite show of 2015), I'm not sure anything can surpass it. See my reviews here: The Returned
"Glitch" begins with several naked people crawling out of their graves in the small town of Yoorana. I guess no one gets buried with their clothes on in Australia (or maybe they disintegrated over time). Perhaps we shouldnt think about this too much. A police officer (James) and doctor (Elishia) try to determine what's going on (with the people, not the clothes). There are lots of mysteries.
The "risen" include: a WWI soldier, an Italian housewife, a girl from the 80s, a guy who was a POW in WWII, the mayor of the town some 150+ years ago and a mysterious violent guy. To make matters interesting, one of returnees is Kate (and she's the previous wife of James). After Kate died of breast cancer, James married her BFF (whom is now 8/12 months pregnant). Talk about an uncomfortable situation.
Some of these people were murdered, some died due to accidents, some of illnesses etc. Will they die again or are they now immortal? Did they come back to finish unresolved business? We do learn they can't leave town or will turn into a big pile of dust. So whatever is going on, they're stuck. A pharmaceutical company may be involved in the happenings. Let's blame them anyway. With a name like "Noregard" I'm sure they're to blame for something.
While all of this sounds entertaining enough, the pace of "Glitch" is a bit slow for my taste. Too bad the show wasn't edited to make it a bit more appealing. In these days of "peak TV" if something doesnt catch our attention immediately, we're off to the next ten options.
Grade: 3 3/4 Monsters (out of 5). Not horrible but didnt pack enough punch to hold my attention. With only six episodes total, it's a fast watch though. A season 2 has been announced so I might check out a few episodes. I would still highly recommend "The Returned" first though (the French version, NOT the American remakes).
