Sense8 Season 2 Review: Who's Up For A Sun Spinoff? I Am!

"Sense8" is definitely expansive in it's vision. The show follows a group of sensates (homo sensorium) who, despite being scattered across the globe, are all telepathically connected. Each was born at the same moment but is unaware of their special abilities until Angelica "births" them. The eight operate as a unit and can draw on each other's thoughts, feeling, and skill sets. They include: Lito in Mexico City, Sun in Seoul, Will in Chicago, Riley in Iceland, Wolfgang in Berlin, Kala in Mumbai, Capheus in Nairobi and Nomi in San Francisco. See my previous reviews here

In season 2 each person's story is expanded upon. Capheus runs for political office. Lito deals with the aftereffects of being outed as gay. Kala struggles with life with arranged husband Rajan (and being away from the man she truly loves-- Wolfgang). Nomi and Armanita's relationship grows. Will spends the first part of season 2 drugged (to keep Whispers from access their group). The sensates learn about other clusters from Jonas.

My favorite part of season 2 is Sun (portrayed by Bae Doona). She is falsely imprisoned for killing their father. Brother Joong-KI actually did the deed. She somehow manages to survive incarceration and several murder attempts. Then she goes looking for revenge. The car/motorcycle chase was great fun! Best line of the season is by Joong-KI when he says "Are you kidding me? My sister is the fucking Terminator?" Hilarious!I I would seriously watch a spinoff with just Sun pummeling bad guys. Please give the lady some clothes though. She spends a lot of time running around in her underwear.

My least favorite part of season 2 is the continuing Whispers/BPO story line. Yes, I get he's the Big Bad. But why does he want to wipe out all sensates-- especially since he is one? It went on too long for my taste.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). "Sense8" is ground breaking in it's depiction of people/cultures we dont typically see on American television. The show succeeds in reminding us of the beauty of humanity's interconnectedness. It falters a bit with the pace of the Whispers story line but the positives still outweigh the negatives..

"Sense8" was canceled in June but a two hour special was later announced. I'm glad the sensates will be able to have some closure. If it did have a season 3, I would suggest less Whispers and more kick ass Sun.
