Brad Meltzers Decoded Season 1 Overview: Where Did I Put My Tin Foil Hat?

Brad Meltzer's Decoded covers various mysteries/conspiracy topics. Brad and three others investigate one topic per week. I'm glad the team is skeptical about what they find. I was concerned that the show would be very one sided.

All 10 episodes of season 1 are available for download on H2.  This show reminds me of Jessie Ventura's Conspiracy Theories. I had heard of most of these mysteries but Decoded provided new info. There were also a few interesting ones that I had never heard of. Here's a few of the highlights:

  • The White House- in search of the missing cornerstone that was supposedly taken by masons. I don't really care unless it causes the White House to fall down.
  • Secret Presidential Codes- I of course knew of Lewis Meriwether but did not know his story. He supposedly committed suicide but Decoded asserts he as murdered. There is no way to say for sure without exhuming the body. Interesting episode. I see people were just as ruthless back then as they are now.
  • Statue of Liberty- I think there are some certifiable nuts on this episode. Is the Statue of Liberty a symbol of Lucifer created by the Illuminati as a way of marking their territory? Lucifer is apparently a Latin word for"light bearer" which she is. Is NY/ the US a modern day Babylon and she is the "whore of Babylon"?  Uh that's where ya lost me. You don't need all these cryptic symbols that no one understands to get your point across. A big electronic billboard on Times Square that says "This is ours- signed the Illuminati" will do just fine.
  • The Lincoln Assassination- Did John Wilkes Booth escape, remarry and die of old age instead of being killed in that barn? There are two stories-- one of him going to India and one of him marrying and signing his actual name on the wedding license. There also was apparently a mummified body of him that toured the countryside that people paid to see. How strange. DNA testing needs to be done on the remains and those claiming to be relatives.
  • 2012- Obviously we not dead and its 2013. I hope the Mayans, Hopis and Nostradamus just didn't get the date wrong.
  • The President's Inner Circle- I had never heard of Washington and the Culper Spy Ring. That was an interesting story. The also mentioned a female spy who died in prison. Never underestimate a woman!
  • Secret Societies- I had never heard of Bohemian Grove in California. Security is very tight. Alex Jones is the only person to supposedly record and smuggle out video. The team meet with a sociology professor who did his dissertation on the place. There is a ritual regarding a 40 foot stone owl that is very strange. The final conclusion was that's its just a gathering place for rich and powerful men but that they're not up to anything nefarious. The entry fee is $25,000. There is a 15 year waiting list. They only meet for two weeks per year. No women are allowed as members. Not sure how this club is any different from the million other get togethers of the rich and famous except its in the woods and involves a giant owl.
  • Apocalypse in Georgia- I hope to visit the Georgia Guidestones some day. I knew the basics of the story and possible Rosicrucian or Ted Turner links. The most controversial part is the message about population control. Not sure what all this means but again people-- just say what ya mean. There's no reason to be all cryptic. Here's what is printed on the stones in EnglishSpanishSwahiliHindiHebrewArabicChinese, and Russian.
  1. Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
  2. Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
  3. Unite humanity with a living new language.
  4. Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
  5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
  6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
  7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
  8. Balance personal rights with social duties.
  9. Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
  10. Be not a cancer on the earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.
