The Americans Episode 2 Recap: The Comrade's Clock

AV Club announced viewers for episode 2 dropped by some 40% over last week. I'm not sure why. The Americans has become one of my favorite TV shows. The writing, acting and music are great. It might be a hard sell to get viewers to sympathize with the Russians but so far I like Elizabeth and Phillip much more than that sneaky snake Stan (the next door FBI agent).

Tonight's show involved E&P (known as Directorate S) trying to spy on a Washington big wig (Casper Weinberger). The convoluted plan is to poison his maid's son (via a stab to the foot from Elizabeth's umbrella). If she wants the antidote, she has to take a clock from the house and give it to Phillip. Then later put the clock back. I'm obviously not a spy but do these types of plans normally work? I can't get anyone to do anything I want them to do. It might have been easier to sneak into the house and do it yourself...just saying.

Favorite quotes
  • "People who believe in God always make the worst targets."- Philip when referring to Viola the maid putting up a fight
  • "Things are different than when you grew up. People are, like, freer."-Paige to her mom (who unbeknownst to her in an undercover KGB agent). "We'll see about that" responds Elizabeth.

Now be a good American and watch this show or else...
