Man, Woman, Wild Series Overview

In honor of Bear Gryllis' new show "Get Out Alive" on NBC, I'm taking a look back at previous survival shows that might be of interest. "Man, Woman, Wild" follows ex Army Special Forces and survival expert Mykel Hawke and his wife Ruth England. I must confess that I haven't seen all the episodes yet but hope to get to them all in the near future.

The show aired on the Discovery channel between 2010 and 2012. Mykel and Ruth have to survive for a several days at a time (I'm not sure exactly how many) with few resources. They teach survival skills along the way. This show is interesting because it involves the dynamics of a married couple trying to survive under extreme circumstances. Sure they get on each other's nerves and bicker occasionally but they are able to put aside their differences and become an effective team (which is what you need to stay alive). It also includes someone who has no previous survival experience (Ruth) so its an excellent teaching opportunity.

Recently Ruth and Mykel have been plugging Wise Foods on commercials between survival shows. They also have a new job "Get Lost" which is set to air on the Travel channel in fall 2013.
