Venice The Series Season 4 Episode 1: Please Remember To Read The Brochure (Season Premiere)

The new season of Crystal Chappell's webseries "Venice" is now available at http://www.venicetheseries.com/ For a $10 subscription fee you can see all of season 4. New episodes are released on Wednesdays. It's well worth the small cost. The first episode is also up on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDwc4m19h0w  (or just go to the venicetheseries channel). Just a reminder, the show cannot be viewed on mobile devices.

For anyone who's new to "Venice", the main characters are:

  • Gina- the main character around whom all other action revolves. She was previously with Ani but treated her badly. They still have feelings for each other although each tries not to admit it.
  • Owen- Gina's brother who is a semi successful actor. Owen and Gina are very close.
  • The Colonel- Gina and Owen's father. Both had difficulty with him growing up since he was so distant and strict. He had a near fatal heart attack recently. His relationship with Gina has improved since then. His wife (Owen and Gina's mom) died from cancer when the kids were young.
  • Guya- is the sister of Gina and Owen's mother. She is very close to both. She has the gift of communicating with spirits.
  • Ani- Gina's ex. She is a photographer.
  • Lara- currently with Ani. She is a children's author and previously had a drinking problem. We're not sure she has that under control.
  • Richard- was with Gina when they were younger. He recently moved back to town.
  • There are lots of other supporting characters as well.

At the end of last season Crazy Sami was headed to Owen's apartment. She ends up stabbing him in the back with a pair of scissors and then skips town. While this is a soap, rest assured that Owen is officially DEAD.

Richard shows up to Owen's wake with a teenage girl (that turns out to be Gina's daughter, Sarah, whom she gave up for adoption). Probably not the best of circumstances to meet under.

Lara proposed to Ani. Ani seemed hesitant at first but said yes. Gina still has a thing for Ani. Last season Gina wrote her a letter and spilled out to her heart. It was never intended to be mailed but the Colonel (who was trying to help for a change) mailed it anyway. But Ani never got the letter because Laura burned it before Ani could see it.

I really enjoyed the scene with Owen in heaven. That was a lot of fun. Best line of the episode "See, this is why we really like people to read the (Welcome To Heaven) brochure"- Angel to Owen.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). I thought episode 1 was the best season premiere yet. The length of the show was good (around 25 minutes). It had just the right mix of sorrow, humor and angst.
