A group is searching for the "Treasure of the Trinity". They believe the island might hold Incan gold worth some $400 million. The booty has been missing since the 1500s. They plan to explore the dangerous island and the waters around it.
We meet the crew of five. They are referred to as the "world's best treasure hunters". There's the captain (aptly nicknamed "Cappy"), a deep sea diver (Mehgan Heaney- Grier), the main expedition guy (Cork Graham), herpetologist Dr Bryan Fry (the snake guy) and hired hand Jeremy Whalen. Modern day pirates may also be nearby. They would be more than happy to separate our team from their haul.
I'm all about finding hidden treasure and surviving evil snakes. However, I still found the first two episodes to be ho hum. Here's a few reasons why:
- The pacing of the show seemed WAY off. After each commercial break, the narrator recaps what we saw previously. He does this OVER and OVER again. This is the same issue I had with "The Curse of Oak Island". See my reviews here There doesnt seem to be enough decent footage for an actual season. How about turning this show into a two hour movie? I would definitely watch that.
- If the island has been abandoned for hundreds of years, why are the paths so clear?
- We know the island is crawling with snakes so why are you casually walking by holes and crawling into caves? Hello... remember, there are S-N-A-K-E-S. In reality I'm not sure any of these people would survive.
- Why did Discovery neglect to tell us that there's a lighthouse on the island? It was inhabited for a number of years by one caretaker. There's also a freaky story about his death (and the deaths of the party that tried to save him). Here I thought Snake Island had been completely isolated since the beginning of time.
