Lost Girl Season 5 Episodes 3 Thru 4 Reviews: Big In Japan And When God Opens A Window

Episode 3 "Big In Japan" has Bo and Tamsin teaming up to take down some Japanese ninja assassins. And, oh yeah, Bo has lost her sex drive. That cant be good for a succubus.

Succubus Ninja To The Rescue

Some dude named Musashi (who's not the best at karaoke) needs protecting and the ladies are up for the job. They share an alcohol fueled night. Bo and Tasmin wake up in bed together and Musashi is still in their apartment. We learn that Musashi is a very famous Japanese warrior who is akin to a god. He is supposed to transition to the afterlife soon. There he will become the leader of his ancestors.

Dyson and Lauren spend some quality time together. She has been receiving death threats since she made Evony human. Dyson trying to teach Lauren how to defend herself was hilarious. On a side note: Why not just let Dyson go without a shirt for the rest of the season?

You're About To Be Taken Down A Few Pegs

It's later revealed that Mushashi's sister Tomoe is behind the assassination attempts but only because Musashi is a fake. Tomoe is actually the great warrior. I'm not sure of the specifics but it involved massages and ninja outfits so I'm all for it. Musashi (who is now forced to work as a waiter/janitor in his family's restaurant) repays Bo for her help by stabbing her. She is rushed to Lauren's lab. Everyone is worried. Tamsin gives Bo some straight talk that helps her snap out of her funk. Bo is worried that everyone she loves will leave her. Tamson, Dyson and Lauren all assure her that is not the case. Dyson later helps Bo cure what ails her (no strings attached) by doing the deed. Tamsin and Lauren wait outside. That was seriously a great scene. I laughed out loud. I also enjoyed Bo and grandfather Trick's "birds and the bees fae style" talk.

Back in the lab, the bodies from the elevator crash are on ice. Elizabeth (the mysterious lady with the candle) comes back to life and snaps poor lab tech Lisa's neck. Sorry Lisa, we never got to know ya. Note to self: Stay away from dead bodies during after office hours.

I Dont Trust This Kid

Episode 4 "When God Opens a Window" begins with a teenager fae (Mark) on the run. An unknown assassin (we'll call the hunter) is chasing him. Have you noticed there are a LOT of assassins on this show? This is the same person that killed Mark's mom when he was six. Mark goes to Bo and Tamsin for help. Bo gets shot with an arrow from the Hunter. She cant heal the normal way (and its not from lack of trying on Tamsin's part). Lauren finds that there is a substance in the arrow that acts as a tracker.

They finally capture the hunter but he says Mark's family killed his so that's why he's after him. Dyson tells Markhe's a shifter that hasnt shifted yet. Shifters and hunters have been at war for centuries. The cycle of violence needs to end. However, at the end of the episode Dyson kills the guy (who is unarmed). This may mean Dyson is turning to the dark side. Earlier in the episode Dyson acknowledges that he's tried of always doing the right thing. Before killing the hunter, he says "this time I do what FEELS right".

These Two Could Have A Fun Spin Off

Vex reappears. There's a dramatic scene between he and Dyson. Dyson is very upset over Vex's protection of Massimo (who killed Hale). We think Dyson might shoot Vex but Lauren talks him down. They bury the hatchet (somewhat) and work on the case of the three missing human murder victims that disappeared from Bo's lab last week.

Father & Son Shifter Reunion

Bo has sex with Mark. This makes the big reveal at the end of the episode even worse because... wait for it... it turns out Dyson is Mark's father. Seriously Bo, do you have to sleep with every person and/or creature on this show? That's just gross. Mark is upset because Dyson was never there for him as a child. Dyson says Mark's mother Piper never told him she was pregnant. Mark eventually leaves. Will he return? I'm not sure what adding Mark was supposed to accomplish? To be honest, I didnt find him an interesting character.

Elsewhere Evony continues her plan to become fae again by adding a little extra pressure on Lauren. There's something really old and scary in the box Evony leaves at the lab.

Who Are You?

And whats up with Elizabeth (the woman holding the candle in the elevator)? She's still hanging around and offing people. She is somehow connected to a fae cult. Remember the three human victims from the elevator? Hopefully we'll learn more about her soon.

One Of My Favorite Scenes...I Hear You.

My favorite part of these episodes was the interaction between Tamsin and Bo. I've always been Team Doccubus but those two are great together. The "I hear you" scene was hilarious.

Favorite Quotes:

  • Dyson asks Tamsin if she's going to quite the police force and work with Bo. She replies "Yes I am going to quite my well paying job with a pension to play PI with my roommate. Kickstarter, hey, do you have any money for spy cams." I love that woman!
  • Dyson trying to teach Bo to box. Lauren "Wait, wait." Dyson: "Keep your eyes open." Lauren: "Is this what your foreplay with bo is like?"
  • "You are full of surprises and most of them are downright horrible. But sometimes, every once in a while, they are just what everybody needs."- Lauren to Tamsin.
  • Tamsin asserts that since Bo has her sex drive back she's "hornier than a monkey with eight dicks". Where do they come up with this stuff?
  • "Maybe someone else should take a turn"- Lauren after using a super cool tranquilizer gun on both the Hunter and Mark.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Not my most favorite episodes but I'm greatly enjoying roomies/coworkers Bo and Tamsin. I would watch a series just with those two bickering.
