Wayward Pines Epi 3 Review: Well I Didnt See That Coming...AGAIN!

Episode 3 "Our Town, Our Law" starts with a small girl laying a flower below Beverly's still hanging corpse. Pope makes a rousing speech to the citizens about Wayward Pines. Ethan continues to hide in the woods in the dark (as others search for him). He ends up in Kate's house. She says there's no way out of town. After years of trying she finally gave up. Ethan must learn to play along or he'll suffer the same fate as Beverly. I'm surprised the guy has lasted this long.

Theresa You In Danger Girl!

Meanwhile Theresa and son Ben are still searching for Ethan. She goes to Secret Service headquarters and manages to log into a computer using Ethan's credentials. Was Theresa an agent too? That woman has some mad skills. Off they go to the gas station where Ethan last used his credit card. Sheriff Pope stops their car on the road. He says they have an oil leak (and then cuts something under the hood). Dont ask me what... I'm not a mechanic.

What's Happening Here? Are There Gates To Other Towns?

Ethan discovers a delivery truck with Wyoming license plates and hides inside it. He ends up in some sort of hub/holding area. The people who cleaned Beverly's house are getting off a bus. He finds the family car but its been wrecked and is covered with dust. This is further evidence, as many have suggested, that there's a weird time vortex.  Kate thinks she's been in town for 12 years (but that is not true since she's only been missing a few weeks). Beverly (may she RIP) thought it was 2000 (so she had lost 15 years).

Ethan has a chat with Dr Jenkins. Why are you talking to him Ethan? We all know he cant get trusted. Jenkins might be behind this whole mess.

Dont Trust Short Guys With Big Umbrellas

Somehow Theresa and Ben end up in Wayward Pines. I"m not sure of the specifics. They have a joyous reunion with Ethan. They will all to live in Beverly's old house. We meet the Wayward Pines realtor. Sorry I cant remember his name. Does he work on commission? These houses are selling themselves. Someone gets murdered, their house is then available.

Ben tells Theresa that Kate and Ethan secretly mey in the woods. Theresa has had enough. She and Ben take their rolling luggage and walk out of town under cover of darkness. But who chases them down but Pope. We think he might kill them when Ethan shows up. They fight. Ben runs over Pope with his own police vehicle. Well, I didnt see that coming...AGAIN. Ethan shoots Pope a few times with his own gun for good measure.

The Burke's are about to open the gate to leave when we hear strange sounds. "Something" grabs Pope's body and drags him outside the wall. Uh, I wouldnt go out there if I were you people! What was that? It sounded like a dinosaur. It better not be a dinosaur M Night or I'll be majorly upset!

How Do They Keep The Neighborhood So Tidy?

Points To Ponder:
  • I had originally thought Pope was pulling the strings in town. In this episode he seems as helpless as everyone else. He keeps saying "This is my town" but he's obviously not in charge. He doesnt know what "they" (whoever "they" is) see in Burke. The truth is far more terrifying than Ethan can imagine.
  • Kate tells Ethan that Beverly's murder is known as "The Reckoning". I"m sure we'll learn more about this later.
  • How exactly did Theresa and Ethan get to Wayward Pines? Did they have a car accident that killed them? And then they were reanimated at the hospital? We didnt see an accident but Ben saw the dented car.
  • What are your theories on the creatures. Dont say dinosaurs. How bout aliens? What if they're actually all on a giant spaceship hurling through space? I have no idea...just throwing stuff out there.
  • I'm liking Theresa. She's a take action kinda gal.
  • What's up with the hub/holding area that Ethan found? Were their doors to other towns besides Wayward Pines?
  • Mental Note: When someone on this show (or any other) makes an impassioned speech, they're going to die soon.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Another shocking episode. You've got me hooked "Waverly Pines". Dont blow it with a stupid ending.
