The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 13 Review: I'm Seriously Worried About Carol!

Last week Team Rick brutally took out some of Negan's crew -- only to have Carol and Maggie kidnapped by others. "In The Same Boat" was an excellent episode and all about the ladies. Paula, Molly, Michelle, and Donnie transport Carol and Maggie to a secret location. It's a meat processing facility (complete with kill room). Carol switches into her "mousy defenseless woman" persona. She pretends to hyperventilate. They let her keep a crucifix because she's terrified. It's not even hers. She'll use it later to free herself. While we've seen Carol very effectively use this trick in the past, it's pretty obvious Carol is losing it. That worries me greatly! When a character has a moral crisis on "The Walking Dead", it usually means they've about to be zombie chowder.

There's lots of exposition in this episode. We learn that Michelle was pregnant at some point and lost the baby. One of the guys in the motorcycle crew that got RPGed by Daryl was her boyfriend. Ringleader Paula says she was stuck with her boss during the outbreak (instead of her husband and four little girls). Her much hated boss was the first person she killed. Mental note guys: NEVER ask a woman to get your coffee!

Molly is a heavy smoking older woman. When Carol says "those things" (cigarettes) will kill ya" Molly laughs and says they already have. She flashes a bloody handkerchief as proof. Yuck!

ln the end Carol gets loose (thanks crucifix!), rescues Maggie and then proceeds to knock off the women. She gives Paula a chance to escape (since she doesnt want to kill her). Paula unwisely ignores Carol's suggestion and ends up with her face chewed off. It's a shame too since Paula would have made a good addition to the Alexandrian community (if the circumstances were different).

When the rest of Negan's crew calls on a walkie talkie, Carol lures them to the "kill room". She throws a cigarette onto the gasoline lined floor and the men are burned alive. That's a rough way to go.

Team Rick finally arrives. Maggie has a breakdown in Glenn's arms. Maggie, girl, you need to stay home since you're preggo. What was she thinking? Poor Carol could have gotten killed just trying to defend her stupid ass.

When Daryl asks Carol if she's OK, she simply says "no". Daryl hugs her. By her recollection, she had killed 18 people BEFORE this incident. Now what's she up to? Somewhere around 25? Is Carol going to follow in the path of Morgan and take a nonviolence pledge? That can get your killed during the zombie apocalypse... Just saying...

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). Excellent! In most horror shows woman take a back seat and are defenseless damsels in distress. I'm so glad "TWD" has allowed Carol to grow into a three dimensional character. I love much of the core group but Carol is hands down my FAVORITE. She has changed the most since the beginning. I fear however that her days are numbered. A crisis of conscience typically foreshadows a character's death. Odds are, the arrival of the REAL Negan (not all the fake ones) in the season finale will mean the end of someone. I just hope it's not Carol.

On a side note, Melissa McBride SERIOUSLY needs to win some awards for this show. Alicia Witt was also excellent in her guest turn as Pamela. May she RIP.
