Santa Clarita Diet Episodes 1-3 Reviews: Suburban Zombie Mom

"Santa Clarita Diet" is one of NetFlix's latest original offerings. It's the story of a suburban realtor mom named Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore). I wont give away the fun but suffice to say a house-showing doesnt go as planned. Joel (played by Timothy Olyphant) is Sheila's surprisingly supportive (given the situation) husband. The two have been together since high school and a little thing like Sheila becoming a flesh eating zombie is not going to tear the couple apart. Their teenage daughter Abby also gets into the act as does neighbor boy Eric.

After her first "kill" Joel tries to keep Sheila satisfied with copious amounts of raw meat. That doesnt work. Next they try animals but Sheila doesnt like the rooster she killed. She needs live human flesh. Maybe they could only kill "bad" people. And off they go...

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). With only 10 30-minute episodes, "Santa Clarita Diet" is a fast watch. If you're expecting heavy duty horror, look elsewhere. This is comedy horror show is in the vein of "Shawn Of the Dead". Is "Santa Clarita Diet" perfect? Not by any means. There isnt much to expand on past the "who can we kill to keep Sheila fed". It's still a fun diversion though.
