What an excellent action-packed episode! There were several instances when I questioned whether the writers would actually kill off a main character. Anyway, here's the highlights from "The Cord And The Ax".
News has spread that Alak killed Skeezer. The new DJ/hooker hits on Alak. He reluctantly dodges her. Stahma smells that Christie is pregnant. Rafe, Stahma, Alak and Christie celebrate. Bertie was supposed to cook a meal for them but she had a flat tire. Privately Rafe tells Alak he knows about his family's business and to cut the crap or he will have him beaten up again. His first responsibility is Christie and the baby.
Nolan is definitely worried about Irisa's secrecy. And with good reason. Irzu is still haunted Irisa. She forces Irisa to kill Bertie. As you recall, Bertie is a Liberata. They're short and have lots of hair. A search party is formed. Everyone loved Bertie so she had no enemies. Nolan sends Irisa to look at the surveillance footage with Berlin. Irisa pulled her knife in case she's seen on camera. Luckily she doesnt have to off Berlin since all the electronics mysteriously explode. Was that caused by Irzu?
Irisa takes Bertie's body to the woods to bury it. She also encounters Sukar along the way (and reluctantly offs him too). Irisa pleads with Irzu to allow her to stop killing people. Irzu says they're better off dead and are under her protection. I have no idea what that means.
Irisa sees flashbacks of her being in a spaceship headed for earth. Who are those two people talking? Are they her parents? And is there a bigger Volan invasion coming in the near future?
Irzu stops Irisa from shooting herself in the head by making the gun heavy. Irisa eventually succeeds though. Uh oh. Are they killing her off for good? Irzu sits with her while she "heals". Just when I think she's a goner, Bertie appears. Is she a ghost? Nope, Irzu must have reversed everything she did (since we see that Sukar is alive again too). I'm glad Bertie is back but what does it all mean? And what's up with the silver tentacles that seem to have been implanted in all the recently dead?
Amanda has a smackdown with a NeedWant customer. That was fun to watch. Nolan and Stahma now know that she an Adreno addict. Stahma tells Amanda that she hopes Kenya comes home "with all her heart". Well she's the one that killed her in the first place. Pottinger tells Nolan to stay away from his woman (ie Amanda). And yes this is exactly like high school.
Meanwhile Alak goes to visit his father in prison. Datak is HIGHLY agitated since he believes Stahma is not doing anything to help his release and has successfully taken over his business. Since, Datak is locked up, Alak takes the opportunity to tell him what he really thinks. "You're just a nasty old bastard". You go Alak! Stahma later reminds Alak that his father can never come back home.
We learn why Pottinger chopped off Doc Yewll's finger last week. He used it to get into the her safe. He then aks her if she can really do whatever the schematics show. We dont know what that is. She says yes but she'll need a lab, resources, and an assistant. Pottinger agrees and her assistant (Datak) is freed. Yewll says he's primary responsibility is keeping her alive.
Datak makes a beeline for his house. He is covered in dirt and heads for the ceremonial bath. He says "the master has returned". Oh barf. He disrobes and jumps in. Stahma and Alak are scared out of their wits but trying not the show it. They both hoped he would never return. Stahma tries to play nice with him. In response, he attempts to drown her. They wouldnt kill off Stahma... would they??? If they do, I'm not watching this show anymore. DO YOU HEAR THAT SYFY? Alak tries his best to defend Stahma but is punches several times and almost knocked unconscious. It looks like Datak was just asserting his dominance and not trying to really kill anyway. Whew, thank goodness. That was a close one.
- "We both know we can never allow your father to come home"- Stahma to Alak.
- "How many people do I have to kill? How big is my debt"- Irisa to Irzu. Apparently it's really, really big.
- "She's probably off doing teenage girl things."- speculating on where Irisa is.
- "Youre just a nasty old bastard"- Alak to his Datak. Way to stand up to daddy! But you know there will be hell to pay later.
- "How's the finger?"- Datak. "Feels like someone cut it off."- Yewll.
- "Why do you think I saved your pasty ass?"- Yewll telling Datak that he is now her bodyguard.
Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). An excellent action packed episode. I've said it before but the Tarr family is seriously the best part of this show (especially Stahma). I cant wait to see what Datak does to them next.
