Under The Dome Season 2 Episode 1: Wheres Magneto When Ya Need Him (Season Premiere)

I have a love/hate relationship with "Under The Dome". I say I dont really like it, but I keep watching none the less. See my season 1 recaps here: http://gmonster320.blogspot.com/search/label/Under%20The%20Dome I can't quit you "Under The Dome"!

Anway, here I am again. As you recall from the end of season 1, the Chester's Mill's residents were in bad shape. Barbie was about to be hanged (or is it hung, I'm not sure). Julie had been shot. The Scooby Squad minus Junior (Joe, Norrie, Angie) were busy trying to figure out the Dome's mysteries-- the dark dome, the blinding light dome, the telepathic dome, the magnetic dome, the loud buzzing knocking everyone unconscious dome, and the baby dome within a dome (with an egg). Julie threw the dome egg into the lake which caused the sky to explode with pink stars. We also learned the Julie was the monarch (whatever that means).

There are a number of new arrivals in "Heads Will Roll"? Where did all these people come from? How is it all these people can be trapped under the dome and still have not met each other? It's not like the dome is over New York City. There's:
  • The girl that Julia rescued from the lake. I think her name is Melanie. Why did she hold Dead Linda's body and apologize to her?
  • Sam- tall , dark EMT that helped Julie save Lake Girl. Turns out his Junior's uncle (and is Paulette's brother). Sam says in a cryptic message to Julia "Some things you never get over. Like my sister taking her life nine years ago". He also looks strangely at Lake Girl and had a drawing of her in his cabin. Is Lake Girl really his sister?
  • Rebecca Pine- science teacher about town and potential love interest for Barbie. Yes the answer to all our problems is a giant magnetic. When in doubt feverishly work on some "science stuff".
  • Stephen King Himself- not only did he write "Heads Will Roll" but he also made a cameo at the diner. You can never have too much Stephen King. "Refill Ang...thanks hon."

The death toll was high this episode (which several returning for a second visit). I thought for a minute we were seeing a spinoff of "Resurrection". The dead, undead and potentially dead include:
  • Dodee- Returned as a ghost (I think) to nag Big Jim. Best line of the episode was when Big Jim told her to "Shut up and be dead, I'm busy"
  • Junior's mom Pauline- We thought she had committed suicide years ago but... SURPRISE! See entry #3 below.
  • Sheriff Linda- Didnt her body look pretty good after having been flattened by a SUV? And I liked when she told Big Jim to kill himself in order to save everyone. You should totally do it dude. Dead people know stuff.

How many times did we hear in this episode "The Dome Wants Me To" or "The Dome Told Me To"? When Big Jim tries to hang himself he says the dome wanted him to. Julia saves him at the last minute by cutting the rope. I love Big Jim as the main show baddie so I didnt want him to die but couldnt ya have left him dangling for just a few more minutes?

"Under The Dome" still had it's fair share of mysteries and cliffhangers in this episode. The biggest ones were:
  • Linda was squashed by an SUV when the dome became magnetized. She saved Barbie but died in the process. Well, as they say, no good dead goes unpunished. RIP Sheriff Linda.
  • Angie follows the mysterious lake girl to the high school. Angie opens the locker where the girl had been and sees "something". Uh oh. Suspected axe to the head and we see a bloody hand print on the locker. Definitely not good. Is Angie really dead?
  • We learn that only Barbie, Julia and Big Jim are immune to the dome's powers. When everyone else passed out, they still remained conscious.
  • Has psycho Junior had a personality overhaul? He refuses to hang Barbie. Maybe he can come over to the light side after all. Also dont call him Junior anymore. He now prefers to be called James. The dome told him that sounds more mature.
  • And we see a woman watching the news. The newscaster says a mysterious dome appeared some two weeks ago. How can it have only been two weeks? We see that the woman painting is... wait for it... it's Pauline (Junior's mom and Big Jim's wife). Hmm I didnt see that coming. She probably faked her death to get away from her psycho family.

Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Lots of new mysteries were introduced this week. I may not recap the show weekly but I'm still I'll be checking back. Stephen King had said in an interview that they hope to go 4-5 seasons so looks like the dome is here to stay.
