Jacyln and Adam in Nicaragua
In episode 4 "Jungle Love" our survivalists are in the Nicaraguan rain forest. They are dropped off at 2500 ft above sea level. They try to find a flat area near a waterfall to make camp.
Jaclyn is a vegetarian and Adam is a hunter. Nope wont be any conflicts here. They have to contend with puma, poisonous spiders and fleur de lance snakes. We already know what damage they can do from previous episodes.
For their survival items, Jaclyn brought a fire starter. Adam brought a machete. They collect water from the stream in bamboo containers (but cant bring it to a boil since there is no dry wood). They decide to climb up to the waterfall (3 miles away) to find cleaner water.
As predicted there are differences between the meat eater and the vegetarian. The plants Jaclyn finds are 1/4 of the total caloric value of what Adam finds (little crabs, snails, earth worms). Adam kills a fleur de lance snake. Jaclyn finally breaks down and eats part of a lizard. Jaclyn finds a cave. Puma continue to menace them.
Jaclyn has her period. Oh, dear. I had wondered how that would work. That would be horrible.
They make it 21 days and must hike 6 miles to their extraction point down the mountain. Adam and Jaclyn worked well together and were considerate of each other. I think there might be a love connection there in the future.

Tom And Lisa Cross A Fast Moving River in Argentina
In episode 5 "Argentina Impossible" Tom and Lisa are in the Yungas Cloud Forest in the Andes at 4000 feet. This is the coldest and highest challenge ever. It's a good thing Lisa is a doctor cause they're going to get hypothermia soon.
For survival items Tom brings a machete and Lisa brings a fire starter.
On day 1 Tom slashes his wrist when building a shelter. Lisa doesnt want to build a fire. Lisa wants to put rocks around their shelter to keep it warmer. Tom doesnt think its worth the effort. There is trouble in paradise.
Lisa prepared herself the trip by keeping her house at 50 degrees. That was a great idea. Meanwhile poor Tom continues to struggle with the cold.
They eat some grubs and worms. Tom covers himself with mud and almost catches a turkey.
They make it to 21 days but must hike 10 miles to the extraction point. The plan to make it a two day trip. They carry bark shingles with them in case they get rained on again (but they are very bulky to get up the mountains).
I must say I was impressed with Lisa and Tom. They initially seriously butted heads but managed to work through it and pull together as a team and encourage each other. This was the coldest (42 with a wind chill of 32) and rainiest of any challenge to date. My hat goes off to them. I wouldnt have made it through that.
