Yes i know many of you have already finished season 2 but I'm still plodding along. Here's the basics of what happened in episodes 4 trough 9. I'm not including minute detail. You should definitely watch the show for yourself.
I was initially worried that without Piper and Alex, the show would be lacking. Nothing could be farther from the truth though. The back stories of the other prisoners were just as interesting if not more so.
- Rosa was one of the biggest surprises. She apparently LOVES to rob banks. Rosa believes there is a curse on her since several boyfriends died after robberies. The first was from a gunshot wound. The second was from a heart attack. Rosa meets a teenager while getting chemo and shares her story with him. They later steal a nurse's wallet as entertainment. Rosa has terminal cancer and the DOC wont pay for her surgery. She knows she's going to die soon.
- Morella was another BIG surprise. We knew she was obsessed with Christoper and always talking about their wedding. What we didnt know if that she was never engaged to him in the first place. She has continually stalked him since they met in the post office (she was running a credit card scam). She even tried to blow up his girlfriend. Morella drives Rosa to chemo and then takes off in the van. She breaks into Christopher's house and see's that he is marrying someone else. She is devastated. Morella seemed to be one of the most well adjusted ladies but now we see she is actually crazier than everyone else.
- Gloria was running a food stamp scam. Her mother made money by fortune telling, lighting candles etc. Gloria's boyfriend beat her but she kept going back with him. He accidentally turned over a candle in the store which started a fire. He was locked in the room so I assume he's dead.
- Poussey is in love with Taystee but Taystee does not reciprocate her feelings. Vee drives a wedge between them. Poussey gets wind that Vee is selling something other than cigarettes. We see some of Poussey's back story. When she was a teenager she moved to Germany with her father who was in the military. She was in love with a girl who's father was in the German military. When he caught them together he ordered Poussey's family be transferred back to the states. Poussey was devastated and almost pulled a gun on him but her father stopped her before anything could happen. Who knew Poussey could speak German?
- Vee is busy wrecking havoc on the prisoners. She's always talk about the old days at the prison. We see a flashback to when Vee and Red met in prison. Their rift occurred when Vee wanted in on the kitchen business. Red said no. Vee belted Red and then had her girls beat the crap out of her. No wonder they hate each other. Back in present day, Red is trying to get back with her peeps. She hatches a plan to smuggle contraband into the greenhouse through the plumbing in the floor.
- Soso refuses to bath or use deodorant. The guards finally drag her to the showers and she is none too happy. She starts a hunger strike.
- Nicky and Big Boo devise a contest to see how many women they can each have sex with. They finally call it a tie. On a somewhat related topic, a number of the women dont know where pee comes from. Sophia has to draw them a picture and tell them.
- Black Cindy was previously an airport TSA agent. She steals ipads etc from the luggage. We find out her mother is raising Cindy's daughter as her own since Cindy is not capable of taking care of her.
- We also get to see more of the guards. Caputo plays in a rock bad and is sweet on Fischer. She does not reciprocate. Healy is still having issues with his wife. He wants the inmates to start liking him again (since they all hate him now). He goes to therapy since it was suggested to him by several people. He also starts to counsel Pennsatucky since she has anger issues as well.
- Pornstache is back with a grand entrance. "Mendez is back bitches". That was hilarious!
- The older prisoners (who have taken Red in as a group member) finally get some air time. They are called the "Golden Girls". They are determined to get Red's contraband back one way or the other. That was hilarious. Another older inmate with dementia (Jimmy) walks out of prison, not once but twice. They finally let her go due to compassionate release but she is not able to take care of herself and has nowhere to go. The other prisoners think she'll be dead within a week. How sad.
- Bennett smuggles in contraband to keep the Spanish girls form tells the administration that he is the father of Daya's baby. He finally freaks out and starts destroying all the inmates stuff, turning over beds, etc. He then goes to Caputo and tells him Daya is pregnant and he thinks Pornstache is the father. Oh, this is going to be fun to watch!
- Piper starts a newsletter but is secretly investigating prison corruption. Her grandmother is sick and dies before Piper can get furlough. All the other prisoners are mad at Piper since none of them could get furlough. Piper's grandmother's (Celeste) funeral was the strangest ever. Her brother chose the funeral as the setting for his wedding. No wonder Piper is so screwed up coming from that family. Piper and Larry both admit that they are finally done. Larry and Polly (Piper's best friend) are now an item but neither Polly's husband nor Piper know this.
- Big Boo discovers how Red is smuggling contraband in. She goes to Vee and will tell her for a percentage of Vee's total haul. She settles for 10%. What a traitor. So far most of the characters have grown on me but Big Boo has not done anything redeeming for me to like her. I wish they would balance out her character a little more.
Episode 4: A Whole Other Hole
Episode 5: Low Self Esteem City
Episode 6: You Also Have A Pizza
Episode 7: Comic Sans
Episode 8: Appropriately Sized Pot
Episode 9: 40 OZ Of Furlough
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Great episodes. I cant wait to learn about others.
