Game Of Thrones Season 4 Episode 10 Recap: Childs Play (Season Finale)

Touted as the best finale in "Game of Thrones" history, "The Children" did not disappoint. One of the best parts about GoT is that no one is safe regardless of their station in life. Anyone could die unannounced at any time (just as it is in "real life"). Here's the highlights and the death toll from episode 10.

Jon Snow goes to Mance to discuss terms of a cease fire. However he really plans to kill Mance. Before that can be done though, Stannis Baratheon's army attacks from both sides. He captures the King Beyond the Wall. How will things change now that Stannis is at the Wall?

Cersai tells Qyburn to do anything necessary to save the Mountain's life. Remember he was mortally wounded during his battle with Prince Oberyn. Cersai tells her father Tywin that she will NOT marry Loras Tyrell. She will not leave Kings Landing. She must stay to protect her son. She also tells him that all the rumors are true. There is no family legacy. All her children were fathered by Jaime. Cersai and Jaime later have sexy times.

Across the seas, Daeny meet a man who wants to return to slavery. She eventually agrees to a contract lasting no more than one year. The next man brings his dead daughter. She was killed by one of the dragons. Daeny chains up the remaining two dragons so they cant harm anyone else.

There is a funeral for the Watchmen killed in last week's battle. Jon later burns Ygritte's body. They both loved each other but were from two different worlds.

Bran and crew FINALLY arrive at the Heart Tree. Opps lots of skeletons arise from the ground. And it's really hard to kill the Undead. Bran goes into a trance to help Hodor fight them off. Jojen is unfortunately killed. Did that scene remind you of "Jason And The Argonauts."? Bran, Hodor and Meera are rescued by a childlike creature. She is one of "The Children of the Forest". She takes them to the man under the tree. He says to Bran "You'll never walk again but you will fly".

Brienne and Podrick finally run into the Hound and Arya. The Hound thinks Brienne has been paid by the Lannisters to bring him back. Brienne says she swore that she would protect Arya. "Come with me Arya, I will take you to safety"- Brienne. "There is no safety ya dumb bitch."- the Hound. They fight. She says "I have no wish to kill her sir". He says "I'm not a knight". They fight to the death. Brienne is triumphant and the Hound falls off a big rock. I'm not sure why those two are fighting in the first place? Arya goes to the Hound. He begs Arya to kill him but she does not. Instead she takes his money and boards a ship for Braavos.

In the highlight of the episode, Jaime releases Tyrion from the dungeon. They embrace. Tyrion goes to his father's chambers where he finds his ex Shae in bed. He strangles her. He next confronts Tywin in the privy. We think Tyrion may let Tywin live but he calls Shae a whore one too many times. Its two arrows to the chest and Tywin has departed the earth in the same way as Elvis (ie in the john). Tyrion is smuggled out of the city and onto a boat by Varys. When he sees that the bells have been sounded, Varys gets on the ship as well.

Favorite Quotes:
  • "It is customary to knell when surrendering"- Stannis. "We do not knell."- Mance.
  • "And now their watch is ended"- funeral for the fallen Brothers of the Night's Watch.
  • "The first men called us "The Children". We were born way before them"- childlike creature that saved Bran's crew.
  • "How can someone so consumed by the idea of his family have any actual idea of what his family is doing? One look at your children and you would have known. Everything they say is true about Jaime and me."- Cersai tells her father that they are not legitimate heirs to the throne.
  • "Killed by a woman. I bet you like that."- the Hound to Arya.
  • "I'd never let them execute you!"- Tywin trying to talk his way out of being killed by Tyrion.
  • "I am your son. I have always been your son"- Tyrion to Tywin after he killed him.

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). A great season finale. Tyrion finally got a little justice for all his past mistreatment. What will all the Lannister children do next season now that they dont have daddy to keep them in line?
