Continuum Season 4 Episode 3-6 Reviews: I Choose Me (Series Finale)

For four years, we've watched Kiera desperately attempt to get back to 2077 and her son. Along the way she also thwarts the dytopian future on numerous occasions in multiple time lines.  Although the last season only has six episodes I think it does a nice job of wrapping things up. "Power Hour", "Zero Hour", "The Desperate Hours" and "Final Hour" highlight all the players as they try to create the futures they want.

Alec learns that his future self drove his wife to suicide. He later hooks back up with Emily-- thus erasing Jason's existence (I think). Jason later hands Kiera a note to give to Old Alec but we never learn what it says.

Alec goes into the future (courtesy of the Traveler). Alec tells his future self about time travel and Kiera. This brings the show full circle since we previously didnt know why Alec had Kiera in the room with Liber8 back in episode one.

Uncomfortable!

Vasquez has been cagy with Kellog since they met. He wants to know her better (read: get busy) but she continually rebuffs him. After passing on being his "queen", he stabs her with a corkscrew. Right before she dies, Vasquez announces that Matthew is her father. Oops. Haaaa, poor stupid Kellog.

The Future Soldiers (now lead by Zorin) destroy the VPD and kill Travis in the process. Great fight scene! Lucas was previously killed by Brad for killing Marcellus. Brad (who we know can not be trusted) tells Kiera that Marcellus planned to use the portal to cause a "full scale invasion" of the present in order to change the future. Kiera desperately wants to go home but agrees that the portal must be destroyed.

This Was A Fun Visual

There's one final battle with the soldiers trying to wipe out everyone else. Kellog of course sneaks into the time portal and leaves. His parting words are "I choose me". The Traveler reappears and does something. I dont know what. Alec tells Kiera she must go immediately through the portal. This is her only chance before it explodes.

Alec, Carlos, Garza, Curtis, Jason and Brad are left behind in the present. Dillon is dead. The rest vow to make the future a better place. There will be no Corporate Congress and thus no reason for Liber8.

Uh Oh!

And in the best part of the episode (in my opinion) we learn that Kellog was tricked into programming his time ball to go FAR into the past. He encounters some indigenous peoples in a forest and says "shit". Haaa! What a perfect ending for Kellog. That is UNLESS he does more damage back then.

Alec, You've Let Yourself Go

In the future, Kiera arrives at the feet of Kagame-- but he's a good guy now thanks to mentoring from Uncle Julian. Just then, Old Alec runs in. He is overjoyed to see Kiera saying "I've been waiting for you for 60 years". Alec shows Kiera Sam but she cannot join him because another Kiera is already there. Our Kiera does not exist to him. Alec says "You will understand in time". Kiera cries but seems to realize that she did what had to be done. At least her son and the future are safe. What's she going to do from here on out though? Sit in her room and watch TV? On a side note: Carlos gets a memorial park named for him. Way to go Carlos!

So What Happens To This Guy?

Grade: 4 1/2 (out of 5 Monsters). Did you find the finale satisfying? I felt it ended appropriately. If the finale had a sugary ending with Kiera and Sam, I would have cried foul (since that would have gone against everything "Continuum" has taught us about time travel)... not that I understand all of it... cause I don't.
