The Strain Season 2 Episodes 12-13 Reviews: The Strigoi Fight Back (Season Finale)

I am a little behind in reviewing the final episodes of season 2. To be honest, due to the sometimes slow pace of the show, it's not currently at the top of my "must see" list.

In "Fallen Light" Dutch (who is still suffering from PTSD) tries to leave with Nikki but is rebuffed. This is AFTER she broke up with Fet. That poor woman cant catch a break.

Nora is still upset over Eph's infidelity. We see a flashback of happier times when they first met.

Geraldine is still trying to crack down on the vamps by any means necessary. Gus and Angel break some prisoners out of jail and recruit them to fight the strigoi. Quinlan gives them a rousing speech (that is after he snaps one guy's neck).

Well, This Is Tense!

In "Night Train" Abe, Fet and Eichorst all attend Alonso's auction for the "Occido Lumen". Abe is backed financially by the Ancients. Eichorst by Palmer and the Master. There is a bidding war. Eichorst is double crossed and Abe ends up with the book. Eich is none too happy. Now Abe must turn over the book to the Ancients or be killed.

Eichorst is constructing a huge facility (and those aren't sheep he's planning to slaughter). Eph, Nora and Zach jump on the last train out of town. They are headed to Georgia to Zach's grandparent's house. Eph and Nora reconcile (somewhat). Uh oh. We know that means at least one (if not both) are doomed. Vamp Kelly watches from around a corner.

Abe and Fet are attacked by LOTS of strigoi on their way home. Things are looking dire but Gus and Quinlan show up. Eichorst and Quinlan have a brief but fun altercation. Eich gets all glowy eyed. Abe and Fet escape into the sewer.

Eichorst pays Palmer a visit. They talk smack. Then the Master arrives. Palmer will pay for his trickery by watching the Master kill Coco in front of him. Lesson learned... or not.

As predicted vamps attack the train... well actually they stand on the tracks until the train derails. Nora and Zach are separated from Eph. Kelly stings Nora thanks to Zach being a dumb ass. Kelly has a tender moment with Zach and then takes off with him. If she could keep Zach FOREVER that would be perfect. I HATE THAT KID! Eph later finds Nora. She knows what has to be done and commits suicide by touching her sword against the rail. Meanwhile the rest of the team escapes on a tug boat.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I would give episode 12 a 3 1/2 but the finale was better so that brought the overall score up. "The Strain" will be back next year for sure. I do hope they tweak the story lines in order to keep viewers coming back. The pace is at time VERY slow.
