Quantico Episodes 2-5 Reviews: Trust No One!

I wasn't sure I'd continue watching "Quantico" after the premiere but here I still am. The show continues to hold my attention. It's fast paced with lots of fun reveals. Each episode follows Alex as she tries to prove her innocence following the Grand Central Terminal bombing and then flashes back to her time at Quantico. Below is an overview of the happenings. I wont list the specifics due to the many twists and turns.

Alex (who escaped the FBI in episode 1) goes back to her apartment but is almost captured by Natalie. Miranda finds out Ryan is undercover and is worried he's spying on her. She confronts Liam. They have an interesting relationship (almost marrying). Liam says "Alex has something on all of us" and it's a matter of national security. Miranda eventually agrees. What could be so big?

Alex calls Booth in the hospital. He agrees to help but needs to make her look like the bad guy. Can he be trusted? The FBI hauls in Alex's mother Sita. What is this supposed to accomplish? We learn that Alex's father Michael and Liam were partners at the Bureau. Hmm, very interesting.

Alex runs to Simon for help. It appears he was kicked out of the FBI program. We later learn he's "Agent Asher". Simon is: 1. Not gay; 2. Doesnt need glasses; 3. Is an undercover FBI agent. How many undercover agents were in the training class? So far we have two-- Ryan and Simon.

At Quantico the recruits (referred to as NATs) go through several training exercises. One is to uncover each others weaknesses. Miranda pits the students against one another. Yep there's no group loyalty...yet. They also do a threat assessment. Alex is the only person to pass.

Nimah and Raina fight because Raina feels Nimah is holding her back. At the end of episode two, Nimah leaves (forcing Raina to be the best agent she can be). Miranda later asks Nimah to return. They are part of a experiment to use twins as undercover agents in the field.

Shelby and Alex become close friends during training but we're not sure she can be trusted either. She's transferring large sums of money somewhere. We later learn the wire detonator used for the bomb came from one of Shelby's companies. Alex takes Shelby hostage in episode 5.

In a side story, Miranda's son is in jail for threatening to blow up a school (or some such thing). He gets out on parole. Miranda is none too happy.

Natalie has a child that her baby's daddy won't let her speak to. Thus far, Natalie has not played a very large role. She didn't appear this week at all.

The steps to frame Alex began long before she joined the Academy. Her fingerprint on the explosive device does NOT have a cut mark. Remember she cut her finger during the pool drill.

The exercise this week was to create a secret identity, crash a company party and speak with the CEO. The twins, Ryan and Alex do well. Shelby is thwarted by Caleb at every turn. When the challenge is over, Ryan and Alex spend the night together. Caleb and Shelby do the same. He doesnt wake her up the next morning when the bus leaves so she misses it. He's a jerk. I have no idea why Shelby is attracted to him.

Elias continues to be suspicious of Simon and plans to turn him into Miranda. I thought Simon might kill Elias. Instead Simon confesses he was in the Israeli special forces and did horrible things in Gaza (which he cant forget). Is that true or another in Simon's endless supply of lies?

The FBI puts out the order to shoot Alex on sight. She wont survive long enough to prove her innocence. She connects via the dark web with an Anonymous type group know as "The Unknown". They interview her and broadcast it worldwide. Alex says ten people she met in Iran and Pakistan (during the year her mother said she was missing from India) have been killed. The plot thickens.

The FBI quickly traces the broadcast. We think Alex is a goner. But it's a trick. They are in a mosque and it's Ramadan. If the FBI raids the place, it will be a PR nightmare.  They all escape. Great scene! "The Unknown" give Alex a new identity and set her up in a hotel.

At the end of "Found" Alex is being assisted by Ryan and Simon. Shelby is now also Team Alex. Caleb is at the top of my current suspect list. My guess is he's a fake out though and is meant to distract us from what's really going on. Who can be trusted at this point?

Episode Guide:

Episode 2: America
Episode 3: Cover
Episode 4: Kill
Episode 5: Found

Grade: 3 3/4 Monsters (out of 5). Sure this show has a predictable formula but I'm still enjoying it. Will it become old by the end of the season? Time will tell. Luckily there's enough eye candy to keep us coming back either way.
