Agents Of SHIELD Season 3 Episode 1 Review: Avoid The Fish Oil (Season Premiere)

I haven't been reviewing "Agents Of SHIELD" regularly since a 22 episode season is too long for me. I prefer my shows with fewer episodes and less filler. "SHIELD" still has a lot to offer though so I'll at least do a recap of the premiere and finale.

The New Guy

"Laws Of Nature" opens with a man (Joey) running through the streets destroying everything in his path. Any metal he touches melts immediately-- followed by a big explosion. Daisy (ie Skye, ie Quake) arrives with Mack. They send the the man up to Coulson's spiffy new plane. Joey barely escapes the clutches of a mysterious woman.

It seems that Terrigen in fish oil is turning people into inhumans by altering their DNA, making them part alien, and giving them varying powers. Fish oil, you say? I know. Just roll with it. SHIELD is trying to find the inhumans before they hurt others or before they are killed (since a number of them have already popped up dead).

What's Her Deal?

Coulson and Hunter track the aforementioned woman in the subway. But she turns the tables and captures them instead. Coulson calls her "Rosalind" (although she has gone by many aliases). She is heading a government agency known as the ATCU (Advanced Threat Containment Unit). Their job is to capture inhumans.

Coulson and Rosalind exchange some witty banter. She says "I havent spent any time in TAHITI although I hear it's a magical place". Score one for Roz. I previously thought she was the one killing inhumans but that is not the case.

You Might Want To Fire Your Hairdresser

Daisy and Mack head to the hospital to get Lincoln's help. A strange blue porcupine looking guy (apparently his name is Lash) is looking for inhumans. I guess he's the one that killed the others.

Bobbi (who is still recovering from her injuries and working in the lab) and Hunter share a romantic moment. They decide to remarry. Can these two please have a happy ending? No chance...especially since Hunter plans to track down Ward.

Coulson is still without a lower arm. He's gone through three possible replacements thus far. I would suggest the model Datak Tarr from "Defiance" uses. It's like the Swiss Army version of arms and is guaranteed to get ya out of any tight squeezes.

Remember at the end of last season, Simmons was sucked into the monolith/space rock/whatever. Since then Fitz has been traveling the world trying to find clues to help her escape (if she is even still alive). Everyone else has come to terms with her death except Fitz (because he loves her). He gets a scroll in Morocco that he thinks holds the answer. Upon opening it he only finds the word "death" written in Hebrew. Fitz screams at the monolith. Great acting by Ian De Caestecker! That was heartbreaking to watch. Meanwhile we see Simmons running for her life on a blue planet. She looks up at the sky. That is definitely not earth or the moon. Is this planet Kree?

Where In The World Is Jemma?

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). A great beginning to a new season. I missed seeing May though. Why was she not in the premiere? Ward was also MIA but he is off somewhere trying to revive HYDRA. The inhumans give me an "X Men" vibe. I'm looking forward to seeing all the varying superpowers. And I can't wait to see what happens with Simmons. I was seriously worried that they had killed her off.
