ZNation Season 2 Episodes 5-6 Reviews: Zombie Baby Daddy

At the beginning of "Zombaby" Team Murphy happens upon the Wisconsin Cheese Parade. Hilarity ensues. Cheese head zombies and band members roam around. Warren releases what is hyped as the "World's Largest Cheese Wheel". It rolls downhill picking up stray zombies along the way. Great visual!

Next they run into some Mennonites-- as well as assorted barnyard zombie animals. How these zombies got anthrax, I have no idea. 10K and Addy eventually come down with it. They need antibiotics in order to survive. Warren considers taking the drugs from the good people who are helping them (but they give up them up willingly instead). Mennonites aren't big on confrontation.

And in the main event, it's time for the zombaby to be born. After lots of screaming, Pie Girl (ie Selena) gives birth... to what we're not sure. Murphy names the child Lucy and dupes it the "first of her kind". The undead are drawn to the stable includes some zombies with a camel. Yes, we get the Jesus references "Z Nation"! The zombies remain calm for a while and then attack. Selena is not able to escape and becomes zombified. Warren shoots her in the head to give her mercy. I didnt particularly like Pie Girl but that was still sad. How is Murph going to take care of a baby on the road?

In "Zombie Baby Daddy" Operation Bite Mark ends up in Springfield Illinois. Murphy's psychic power over the zombies is weakening. The group tosses Lucy around like a football in order to save her from some Abe Lincoln zombies. Lucy doesnt mind. She even gives the camera a little wink while in mid-flight. On a related note, did the special effects team use Murphy's eyes for zombaby? It's a freaky effect that works well.

The rest of the group continues to be suspicious of Lucy since they dont know which side she's on. Will she save mankind or destroy it? Murphy (who is being surprisingly paternal) is worried they will kill Lucy. He makes Cassandra guard Doc, Addy, and 10K and takes off with the baby. Murphy finds a nice couple (Ma and Pa Kettle) whom he bites and leaves Baby Lucy with them. This marks the first time we've EVER seen Murphy do anything selfless. He obviously loves the baby and wants what was best for her. There may be a little humanity left in him after all.

IMHO, Cassandra has been an underutilized character for the start. This week's events dash any hopes of her making a full recovery. 10K stabs her in self defense during a fight. RIP Cassandra. We never really knew ya. When Murphy returns, he's very upset with 10K. I suspect these two will have it out at a later date.

Warren secretly follows Vasquez. We knew he was up to something from the start. He and Warren are injured in a shootout wit the Zeros. While patching each up at the hospital, they chat. Side Note: bonus points for the eyeless zombie. That was freaky! Vasquez says he was previously a DEA agent. The Zeros kidnapped his wife and daughter and then killed them in front of him. All he knows is the man has a tattoo of a face on his arm. Well, that should narrow it down. And who else besides me ships Warren and Vasquez? Show of hands?

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Two solid episodes with some funny gags thrown in (such as the Big Cheese Wheel O' Zombies, Abe Lincoln Zombies and Lucy the zombaby). I continue to look forward to whatever craziness "Z Nation" throws our way each week.
