And The 2013 Academy Award Nominees Are

Below is the full list of nominees announced today. The winners will be chosen on February 24th. Seth MacFarlane and Stewie will co-host the ceremonies (vengeance is mine). I will make my "actual" predictions later but here's my votes for the first 10 categories based on like-ability, attractiveness and other superficial criteria. And the Oscars go to:

  • Best Picture: "Lincoln"- I've always loved Abraham Lincoln. He wasn't the most attractive man in the world...but attractive on the inside where it counts. He's my favorite president by far. Who's my least favorite you ask? Why that would be Martin Van Buren. No particular reason, I just don't like him. Did you know the word “OK” was invented during Van Buren’s presidency? It stood for his nickname: “Old Kinderhook.”
  • Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, "Lincoln"- there's just something about DDL. Everybody loves him. I'm still recovering from his performance in "The Last Of The Mohicans". It would be nice if Hugh Jackman won too though. Can there be a special category for wolverines?
  • Actress: Naomi Watts, "The Impossible.". Can't wait to see this. I hear she's great and its based on a true story about a family separated during a tsunami. Everyone in this category is super talented though.
  • Supporting Actor: Tommy Lee Jones, "Lincoln". I would watch him read the phone book. There's just something compelling about his acting in every role...and he looks like a sad puppy. And someone give Robert De Niro and Oscar just cause he's awesome!
  • Supporting Actress: This category is chock full of talent. I'm voting for Anne Hathaway, "Les Miserables".  Her voice is haunting. And could she get any skinnier? If she stands sideways no one will be able to find her. I was going to vote for Sally Fields in "Lincoln" but she reminds me of my mother. She is a GREAT actress but that kinda freaks me out. I still loved ya Sally in Soapdish. If you like soap operas, I highly recommend this movie. Its great fun!!
  • Directing:  Ang Lee, "Life of Pi". I know nothing about this category but I like Ang Lee.
  • Foreign Language Film: Amour," Austria. It's getting lots of buzz. I want to see it but I think I'll ball my eyes out. I don't do well with scenes of older people dying.
  • Adapted Screenplay: "Silver Linings Playbook"- gotta give em some award.
  • Original Screenplay:  Mark Boal, "Zero Dark Thirty"- another show I must see soon. Jessica Chastain is supposed to be excellent also.
  • Animated Feature Film: "Brave"- if it doesn't win, my kilt will be a-kelter.
