What did you think of the first episode of "Under The Dome"? I had no expectations so I enjoyed it. Ya never know. Some Stephen King adaptations are really good (Misery, The Shining) and some suck (Running Man, Maximum Overdrive). Time will tell. There were lots of recognizable actors-- Walter's brother-in-law Hank from "Breaking Bad", Officer Shelby from "Bates Motel", and that pilot from "Lost" (just to name three).
The basic premise of the show is as follows. The good townspeople of Chester's Mill, Maine (and a few unfortunate visitors) find themselves stuck under a huge transparent dome for reasons no one understands. And as with all small towns, there are lots of secrets and everyone wants to know everyone else's business. Oh and the dome emits some high pitched frequency and zaps people the first time they touch it. Not sure if that has to do with anything.
The main characters are:
- Dale Barbara "Barbie"- previously an Army Captain, he is promoted to Colonel and told to find the power source for the dome. Is Barbie a good guy or bad guy? The episode opens with him burying a body.
- James Rennie "Big Jim"- used car salesman, he's making a power play to take over the town.
- Junior Rennie- Big Jim's crazy son.
- Julia Shumway- editor of the local paper. Her husband is cheating on her.
- Linda Esquivel- sheriffs deputy, her firefighter boyfriend is on the other side of the dome.
- Joe and Angie McAlister- teenagers who are now on their own since their parents are outside the dome.
- Chief Duke Perkins- the sheriff, he dies in episode 1 when the dome fries his pacemaker.
- Lots of other supporting characters.
That scene where the cow got split in two by the dome was crazy. And the raining of body parts after the plane crash was icky.
Grade:3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). It held my interest and I will watch it again. So far I haven't found any characters that I really like yet though. How bout the dome? I love you Dome! You are my favorite.
