Extant Episode 4 Recap: Say Hello To My Little Friend

Before I forget, "Extant" has moved from it's Wednesday at 9 AM ET time slot to 10 PM ET (which puts it opposite "The Bridge"). Also Director Alan Sparks is the same actor that played Nick Ford in season 2 of "Bates Motel" (as well as lots of other roles). See my reviews of "Bates Motel" here Let's hope he meets a similar fate as Nick.

And on to the show. As you recall from last week, Holly, John and Robot Boy were on the run from the baddies at the ISEA. "Shelter" opens with Director Sparks calling Yasumoto to tell him Molly has escaped. Looks like they're playing hardball from here on out.

We see two Russian doctors talking about Yasumoto getting what he wants or else they'll be sent back to Siberia. They show him a yellow liquid. It's from an asteroid and has magical healing powers. Yasumoto wants Anton to take off his respirator. Poor Anton does and starts bleeding from the eyeballs. Bye bye Anton. We never got to know you.

Also if you remember Yasumoto from "Helix" (Hatake), he is already immortal so doesnt need any life sustaining yellow stuff. He does however need to rescue his immortal (possibly evil) daughter. See my "Helix" reviews here

Molly returns home after six years. Her father Quinn was a doctor and is currently in AA. Quinn is played by the always wonderful Louis Gossett Jr. Her mother Mia died some time ago. The ISEA know exactly where they are the whole time. Excellent job of hiding Molly!

Dr Sam is being integrated by Sparks. She says "You plant an embryo in her without her consent. Dont talk to me about best interest". Alan responds that he knows Sam covered up the fact that her brother committed murder. Instead of jail time, she had him transferred to a mental hospital. If Sam does not do what Sparks says, something bad will happen to Billy.

John hooks up Molly's old DNA replicator to determine the paternity of the fetus. There is lots of soldering of circuit boards. Marcus appears to Molly and says "dont let me go". Meanwhile Gramps starts drinking again and makes some money off of Ethan at the Anchor bar. That is until Ethan messes up on purpose. Ethan says "nobody's perfect". Shame on you Doc for taking advantage of an innocent Robot Boy! And you should have taken him to Atlantic City to count cards instead of the local dive bar.

An unhappy Gramps and Ethan return to the house. Doc goes to check the gate. Ethan is kidnapped from the truck.

Molly and John call the police but they call off the search upon finding out that Ethan is a humanich. Molly discovers Ethan unconscious (battery-less) in the woods. She is captured by the ISEA. Molly wakes up a ship. We think she's getting away but nope. She runs right in the surgery room they were prepping for her. A laser makes an incision in her stomach. Uh oh, that's not good.

Speaking of not good, John is in jail because he punched the robot-hating-cop in his face. Quinn is there to keep him company. And where is Robot Boy? Has he already been recycled for spare parts? My this respirator looks familiar.... OH NO!!! IT'S ETHAN... (not really, just kidding).

Side Note: Ethan has pie when he's out with his grandfather. How does that work? Why do robots need to eat? That seems to be a lot of extra work to create for nothing (except you can have a meal with them). Maybe I missed the part where it was covered. Please let me know in the comments below.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A good episode but I'm still not completely hooked. The show is not bad but it not "must see TV" yet either. I LOVE Halle Berry but, as I've said previously, I just dont see a lot of chemistry between John and Molly. Will the show last 13 episodes? I really need the see what the alien baby looks like.
