Is Cai Really An Irathi-Jewish Lawyer From Tallahassee? I Dont Think So.
Before we begin, I'd just like to say that the writing this season on "Defiance" has been excellent. I have thoroughly enjoyed each episode. Let's be honest, I started watching for Stahma but the writing and stellar acting has kept me coming back.
Now onto "If You Could See Her Through My Eyes". Datak has a late night rendezvous with the Tarr handmaiden Jalina. The next morning he finds her outside his door, sans eyeballs. He calls Dr Yewll to assist. She says either dump the body or be charged with murder. He elicits Rafe to help him. They drag poor Jalina's body out in the fields where a hellbug devours it. Rafe again reminds Datak that he was promised some Votan weapons (which I assume Rafe will use to retake the mines).
Datak tells Stahma that Jalina is dead. She is shaken. Those two cant quit each other. Sure they almost killed each other (several times) but deep down inside they still love each other in a Casti way. They vow to avenge Jalina's death.
Meanwhile Alak finds a Casti courtship gem in Christie's possession. What has she been doing? DJ Girl (Deidre) who pretended to be Christie's friend rats her out and tells Alak she's at a Casti fetish bar. Deidre's long game is apparently to break up their marriage. Alak finds Christie there with the freaky Mercado. So does everyone at the bar know everyone else is just pretending to be Casti?
Mercado says he exiled Niles to Dakota Reach because he lacks character. He wants Amanda to think about being mayor again.
Irisa dreams of some guy (Reimlu) on a spaceship. Later she meets Rynn who introduces her to Cai (who looks exactly like the guy in her vision).
Nolan asks Irisa point blank if she had anything to do with Jalina's disappearance. She says "no" but he doesnt believe her.
Rynn is missing. Someone is taking Casti corneas and selling them on the black market. He has captured Rynn and removes one of her eyes before he's caught. Datak avenges Jalina by poking out both of the doctor's eyes. Didnt you feel a little sorry for the doc though? H9s daughter has polio and he lost all his patients when Yewll moved into town. Still, that's not reason to kill people and take their eyeballs.
Irisa grabs Cai and kisses him. They are transported back to a spaceship. They take over the ship by killing some creatures. What are those? They're not Indogene. Cai is terrified of this vision. Has he had them previously? He jumps on a bus and heads out of town. Will we see Cai again? I hope so. He's funny.
And in what has become the signature "Defiance" closing scene, we see most of the main characters. Mercado sings to Christie in the Casti fetish bar. Alak and Deidre are getting busy. She wan'ts to be his "princess". Uh, not gonna happen. Datak and Stahma are mourning Jalina's death as Rafe looks on. Nolan tackles Irisa and confirms that she does have rejuvenating powers. She says Irzu threatened to kill Nolan if he found out. Nolan says "we live or die together". That was a touching scene.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "Defiance" keeps churning out one stellar episode after another. I'm kinda sad that we're already to episode 7 though. What are going to do in between seasons?
