The Strain Episode 4 Recap: Its Not For Everyone

Any Idea What This Part Is... Cause I'm Not Entirely Sure

What a perfect episode title since I just said to a friend yesterday "It's not for everyone but if you like disgusting, sneaky vampires it's worth a watch". If you overlook the at time atrocious dialogue, it's great fun.

And here's what happened this week:
  • Eph decides to do an autopsy on Captain Redfern. They dont bother to wear face masks and goggles. I dont think these doctors know anything about infection control. The autopsy scene was great though. This is the first time we've seen the inner workings of a vampire (complete with the python stinger, dual organs and shooting ammonia). Repulsive yet strangely compelling!
  • Eph tells Nora no one would believe them about the vampires so why bother notifying them? I'd call every TV/news outlet, the military, the National Guard, the president and splatter it all over the internet.. but that's just me.
  • Speaking of the internet, the scene with Echorst, Eldritch and the hacker was pretty lame. She is going to hack the internet so it's slower than dial up? Uh I dont know if you're aware but some communications did exist before the internet. I think a few people can manage to survive without it.
  • Ansel eats the family dog and then hides in the shed. Annie (who irritates me to no end) finds him. He had he good sense to chain himself up so cant hurt her (for now). Annie later shoves a cranky neighbor into the shed for Ansel to chomp on. Too funny!
  • Jim finally confesses that he let the coffin across the bridge. As he's saying he would do anything to save his wife, Eph belts him in the face. That was interesting timing since Eph would NOT do anything for his wife (and pretty much emotionally abandoned her).
  • We see some interaction between Gus' family. Where can I get a mom like that? Gus returns the clock that his brother stole from Abraham. At least those Gus and Abraham are in the same orbit now. Gus and the big dude steal a car from a parking garage and sell it for $800.
  • Abraham (who is the only one with any sense on this show) starts lobbing creature's heads off (Emma's and her Daddy's). Finally Eph has seen the light and starts burning the bodies. Poor Nora is still brain dead though. Yes let's all hold hands and sing around the camp fire till the vampire eat us.
  • Eldritch needs a liver transplant STAT! Luckily they have one for him. His buddy Echorst is nowhere to be seen. Vampires are such fickle friends.

Points To Ponder:
  • Is any part of the vamps still human after they change? Emma was listening to some kiddie music.
  • And did I hear correctly that vampires defecation and urinate out of the same orifice? Oh dear. It keeps getting worse by the minute.
  • Where is Fet?

Favorite Quotes:
  • "What's that smell?"- Jim as Eph pulls the "stinger' out of Captain Redfern. That scene was way cool.
  • "You're dead to me"- Eph to JIm.
  • "God damn airplanes. They're like missiles in the sky ripping through everything."- Annie. Uh ok. Who wrote that line? Was he/she drink at the time?
  • "We have resources. We have protocols."- Nora. "Not for this."- Abraham. Again, drunk writer.
  • "This is not for everyone... some brains cant adjust"- Abraham about vampire hunting.
  • "I'd rather die than kill people"- Nora. OK, maybe we can arrange that.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Bonus points for lots of vampires this week. Emma, Ansel, and Captain Redfern (well just his autopsy).
