Agent Carter Epi 4 Recap: Blitzkrieg Buttons And Chicken Pockets

In "The Blitzkrieg Button" Howard Stark is smuggled back into the country thanks to Mr Mink and his goons. Jarvis arrives to retrieve him but is shaken down for extra money. Peg dispatches them with her usual flair. Stark cant stay at any of his safe houses because the SSR is hot on his trail. Peg hides him in her apartment at the Griffith (a women's only boarding house). Between the house matron/guard dog Miriam, Peg's nosy bestie Ang, and the womanizing Howard, it's a full time job for Peg. And she already has two other jobs full time jobs as SSR agent and spy for Stark.

Howard Has A Way With The Ladies

Chief Dooley heads to Nuremberg. I thought it would be harder to get into war torn Germany but whatever. Dooley tells Nazi Bad Guy (sorry I dont remember his name) that if he spills what he knows about a particular battle, Dooley will give him a cyanide pill (so he can kill himself before the scheduled hanging). Nazi Bad Guy says there was no Battle of Finow. When the Germans arrived, the Russians were already torn to bits. We still dont know how Lee Brannis is involved though. Dooley gives Nazi Bad Guy the pill but it's really a breath mint. Psych!

The SSR Boys Are Not As Incompetent As They First Appeared

Howard has invented the camera pen and takes a selfie with Peg. Peg later uses the pen to gather info on Stark's inventions at the SSR. Agent Sousa heads to the wharf and confronts an angry homeless vet. Sousa proves to be no one's pushover even without a leg (which he continues to reminisce about). Agent Thompson is acting chief while Dooley is away. He tells Peggy that men will never see her as a equal. Ouch. That hurt.

Chicken Pockets Should Not Be Confused With Hot Pockets

In the best scene of the episode, the ladies of the Griffith sit down for the communal meal. Sweaters with chicken pockets and a purse that holds a cup of gravy are discussed. Quite inventive. I think Miriam should start a spy school for ladies. They're well on their way already.

Peg has her next mission. She must steal Howard's Blitzkrieg Button back because it's too dangerous in enemy (or friendly) hands. If its used in New York City, the whole tri-state area will be plunged into darkness for decades to come. But it turns out the Blitzkrieg Button is a fake. Peg opens it and sees a vial of blood. It's not just any blood, it's Captain America's.

Howard and Peg fight it out. She's not happy he lied to her. Stark says he was involved in "Project Rebirth". Sample SR-53 (ie Steve's blood) holds the secret to diseases, vaccines and who knows what else. Peg calls Howard out on just wanting to makes money off his inventions. Howard reveals a little about his past. He was born poor, blah, blah, blah. I dont care. He and Peg and going to have some major mending to do if their relationship is to ever be the same.

Yes I'm From Iowa... Iowa Russia That Is.

Mr Mink arrives at the Griffith with flowers for Peggy.  Miriam starts to quiz him but he's gone. He sneaks onto Peg's floor. Just then Dottie comes out of her room. We think she's a goner but she goes full ninja and breaks Mink's neck in two seconds flat. Too cool! I predicted previously that she was not an innocent girl from Iowa.

Enjoy Your Little Gun While You Can Mink

Peg also reads Jarvis the riot act because he backed up Stark's lies. Mental note: Jarvis always pulls his ear when he lies. And who do we see in a cameo but Stan Lee? Yes he'd like to borrow the sports section. Too funny. Back at the Griffith, Peg hides Roger's blood behind a picture in her room. That doesnt seem too had to find. Maybe she should spackle and put up some new wall paper. Just a thought.

Favorite Quotes:
  • "Don’t worry, I’ll never reveal Howard Stark’s body is lying rotting at the bottom of a dumbwaiter shaft!”- Peg to Stark.
  • "It is unbecoming for a lady to read Freud."- Miriam to Peggy.
  • "No man will ever consider you an equal. Sad but doesnt make it any less true."- Thompson to Peg.
  • Lab Guy: "Howard Stark is either an ignoramus or a genius." Peg: "Most likely both."
  • "Steve Rogers dedicated his mind, his body, his life to the SSR and to this country. Not to your bank account....I forgot my pledge running around for you like a corporate spy. So thank you Howard for reminding me who Steve was and what I aspire to. For all I know, you stole your inventions."- an angry Peg to Stark.
  • "I want that."- Dottie to Mr Mink before she snaps his neck and takes his cool pistol.
  • "I can trust the actions of men who dont respect me more than those who do."- Peg to Jarvis.

Grade: A not very exciting episode but the chicken pocket pushed it up to a 4. The acting is excellent as usual but I'd really like to see Peg kick some ass. Maybe next week. And how long before we find out what Dottie is really up to? There are only 4 episodes left.
