Lizzie Borden Chronicles Episode 4 Review: Quickly Running Out Of Fall River Citizens To Kill

I thought "Welcome to Maplecroft" might slow down on the killing but I was completely wrong. Lizzie continues her 2 murders per episode trend. Not that I'm complaining. This show is seriously off the rails. That's what makes it so much fun. Lizzie continues to sashay around town stirring up trouble at every turn. If I was a Fall River resident, I would run screaming in the opposite direction from Lizzie.

Charles Is Having The Worst Week Ever

Last week Siringo was beaten to a pulp and placed on a railroad track courtesy of Lizzie. This week he's back in town and recuperating with the help of Nance and Isabel. He wants to confront Lizzie but Nance puts morphine in his drink. She goes hunting for the truth... ALONE. Really bad idea! I will give Nance credit though. She may seem like a helpless woman but she knows how to handle the brutes. I especially enjoyed the scene with her taking Skipjack down a few notches.

Speaking of Skipjack, he tries to bribe Lizzie over Spencer's murder. We know he'll be dead soon (especially since both Lizzie and Charles are gunning for him).
.
Emma and Officer Trotwood get closer. Emma really likes him but Lizzie reminds her of dead baby Benjamin (who we still dont know the full story on). She says Trotwood will find out she's not a virgin so it's better to break it off now. Poor Emma. She appears to be stuck with Lizzie for all eternity (or until Lizzie kills her).

Mrs Kenney Should Never Have Answered The Door

Lizzie continues to have conflict with next door neighbor Mrs Kenney. Not only is the woman vocal about not liking Lizzie but she also beats her dog. Lizzie goes to the bank. She wants to buy all four lots around her new house (which they have christened "Maplecroft"). Of course Mrs Kenney doesnt want to sell. Lizzie retaliates by stealing her dog. She then returns at night with the dog in her arms. She pores his urine on the floor and than turns over a lamp thus electrocuting Mrs Kenney. Cant say that I've seen that before. Bonus points for creativity Lizzie!

In the main event, Nance confronts Lizzie at home. Nance tries to shoot her but that doesnt work. They struggle on the stairs. Trotwood who was outside with Emma runs in. He sees Nance stab Lizzie in the stomach. Nance then falls down the stairs and hits her head at the bottom. Bye, bye Nance. She is D-E-A-D. I seriously did NOT see that coming. I thought she was supposed to be a main character. This raises the stakes since apparently no one is safe around Lizzie.

RIP Nance. We Never Got To Know You.

Lizzie Death Toll- 9 confirmed (I had to make a list because there are so many I'm losing track):

  • Mr Borden
  • Mrs Borden
  • Brother Will
  • William Almy
  • Nance's brother Spencer
  • Mr Flowers
  • Adele
  • Nance- that one was a complete shock
  • Next door neighbor Mrs Kenney
  • Possibly Baby Benjamin?

Grade 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Another crazy episode. I'm still loving this show. I seriously did NOT see the death of Nance coming though. IRL Lizzie and Nance were friends (or possibly lovers) for many years. The other thing I questioned in this episode was why they had Nance stab Lizzie. It had no lasting effect and she was off killing someone else right after. Not sure why they bothered. They could have shown Nance with the knife trying to stab Lizzie instead.
