Lizzie Borden Chronicles Episode 7 Review: Different Town, Different Name, Different Hair Color, Same Old Lizzie

Now, I know why last week's episode seemed like the finale... because it once was. The show was originally slated for six episodes but another two were added later. That clears up that mystery. Thanks for listening.

In "The Sisters Grimke" Lizzie and Erma have picked up stakes and moved to Cumberland Maine. Lizzie is now a blond schoolteacher. Emma has been committed to a mental asylum. The sight of Lizzie chopping up Hilliard and Siringo to dispose of their bodies was too much to bear. The sisters are now going by Grimke instead of Borden.

Two other Pinkerton men (Bat Masterson and Tom Horn) travel to Fall River in search of Siringo. Meanwhile a pesky journalist in Cumberland threatens to reveal Lizzie's true identity. She easily dispatches him with cyanide but not before her picture is published in the paper. Now Bat and Tom are closing in on Lizzie.

Emma gets electroshock therapy at the asylum. She comes out of her trance long enough to say the word "murder". If she keeps that up, Lizzie may have to whack her too.  Dr Voss attempts to blackmail Lizzie. If she doesnt pay, Emma may be moved to the really nasty part of the hospital.

Lizzie encounters two men arguing over a boy in a store. Its the father and stepfather of Everett (one of Lizzie's students). They are fighting because the stepfather beats Everett. Everett whacks the cruel man and his wife while they're in bed. But then the police lock up Everett. Lizzie seems to have a soft spot for the boy. She kills his father Raymond after writing a suicide note saying he is the culprit and Everett is innocent. Yep, different town, different name but same old Lizzie.

You Have No Idea Who You're Dealing With

Meanwhile Dr Voss is up to all kinds of hanky panky with the lady patients. He even kills one right in front of the not-comatose Emma. Emma decides she's had enough. She knocks Voss out and leaves him in the back ward where the patients rip him to shreds. Lizzie goes to the hospital but Emma is gone (and she has released all the patients). The patients scurrying around in the dark was eerie.

Partial Body Count List-- 27 confirmed by Lizzie at her mother's grave during episode 6. Here's the ones we know about:

  • Mr Borden
  • Mrs Borden (Lizzie's stepmother, not her birth mother)
  • Brother Will
  • William Almy
  • Nance's brother Spencer
  • Mr Flowers
  • Adele
  • Nance- that one was a complete shock
  • Next door neighbor Mrs Kenney (she was mean to her dog)
  • Perry (the photographer who helped Lizzie locate Spencer's body)
  • Isabel (love interest of Siringo)
  • Baby Benjamin- Emma believes Lizzie killed him
  • Trotwood- Emma's fiance
  • Skipjack
  • Hilliard- killed by Siringo but I'm still counting him
  • Siringo- killed by Emma but I'm still counting him
  • I assume Lizzie did not kill her birth mother Sarah Borden
  • Emmett's father- Emmett kiledl his stepfather and mother
  • Dumb Cumberland journalist
  • Dr Voss- killed by Emma

Favorite Quotes:

  • "All weapons in the classroom will be used by me."- schoolteacher Lizzie Borden.
  • "Ill need your help moving some of the bigger pieces."- Lizzy about the dismembered latest victims.
  • "Looks like you've severely limited my options Dr Voss"- Lizzie.
  • "A person should do their own killing..."-  Lizzie.
  • "I am a B-O-R-D-E-N"- Emma to Dr Voss.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). I'm glad to see Lizzie hasnt mellowed with her new dye job. Next week is the finale. Will there be season 2? If so, I would definitely watch it. Lizzie is a hoot.
