I Think I'm Pretty
In terms of the story, it's pretty slim but who cares? That's not what we're here for. The basic premise is as follows. The nomadic Max (Tom Hardy) gets kidnapped in the desert. He's used as an unwilling blood donor in a post apocalyptic society. Pasty humans (War Boys) labor inside a mountain (the Citadel) for a boss man named Immortan Joe. He looks like a cross between Bettlejuice and Skeletor. Outside the Citadel are people struggling to stay alive. Water (called Aqua Cola) is severely rationed and given to the peasants when Joe feels like it. He always warns them to not become dependent on it.
Furiosa And The Wives
Joe's gang is making a gas run. Their head truck driver is a one armed bald woman named Imperator Furiosa (played by the always fabulous Charlize Theron). She has a slight change in plans though. She has stolen Joe's "wives" (five young girls). They are making a break for freedom by heading to her ancestral homelands. I wont go into the specifics of the rest of the story-- except that Max joins Furiosa at some point. They speed across the desert while in hot pursuit by Immortan Joe and hundreds of cars, trucks, motorcycles and other weird hybrids. And some guys on swaying poles throwing fireballs (Polecats) and a guy playing a guitar/flame thrower while dangling from chains (Doof Warrior).
I Dont Think I Want This Job
Maybe later I'll try to write an article on the mythology of "Mad Max" because I dont understand all of it. Here's a few points to ponder:
- The War Boys seem to be related to Vikings in that they think they will get their rewards in Valhalla. They keep saying "I live, I die, I live again".
- What's up with the War Boys spraying their lips/teeth with silver paint? That was strange.
- I didnt previously mention Furiosa's relatives that she met up with again in the desert but they're some tough old broads.
- Thank goodness there is no love story between Max and Furiosa. It's the apocalypse. People are trying to not starve to death. There will be plenty of time for loving later.
- Helpful Hint: Dont use so much gas chasing each other around and you'll have some extra. Just saying...
Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). My hat is off to you Mr George Miller. "Mad Max Fury Road" is the most fun I can remember having at the theater in a LONG time. I think it might be the best of the four "Mad Max" movies. Sure the story in "Fury Road" is slim and the dialogue is clunky at times. But so what? "Max Max" is a TON of fun. Just suspend reality and hang on for the ride.
Less Controversy And More Enjoying!
And now a brief word about the "feminist controversy" surrounding the film. I dont understand. Sure a women seems to be the lead even though the move is named "Mad Max" but why does that matter? Max is a nomad. He travels from group to group and unwillingly helps along the way. If this movie has a feminist agenda then the other 99% of action shows have a "male-ist" agenda. It's just stupid. Get over it people or you'll miss all the fun! There's plenty of room for both men and women in this dystopian world.

ReplyDeleteWatch mad max fury road movie online free on zmovies now. That's it! Another fault is the fast-paced visions Max keeps seeing of his family, who apparently died but it's never explained how or why. After a while, the visions become annoying, ridiculous and fail to really add anything to the overall picture. It's possible that the death of his family was explained in the previous films but I only saw bits and pieces of the first one and that was years ago! The filmmakers seem to be operating on the assumption that everyone in the audience saw the previous films and that's an enormous mistake to make.
ReplyDeleteClick movie123 watch movies online free now. If they wanted to reestablish the character Max, then actually do so by giving us a little background on him. Now, with all that said, the film did have some decent merits. Some of the car chases were pretty cool, admittedly, as were some of the vehicles themselves, many of them looking bad-ass. And the woman used as the models aren't bad to look at either.
