In "Capsize" Emma heads to Boston to visit Leslie's family. It turns out they're not peace loving and law abiding. The Trotwoods are the 1890s version of the Sopranos. Aideen (hello there Lady Stark) is a scary woman. I wouldnt want to tangle with her. There's also her sons Brendan (the oldest) and Orin and a daughter Penelope.
Dont Mess With Mama!
Lizzie arrives in Boston but Emma wants nothing to do with her. Lizzie threatens Aideen if she doesnt help Emmasee the light. Aideen is not to be triffled with though. She has Brendan put Lizzie's head through a mirror. Take a hint Lizzie!
Bat and Tom are still hot on Lizzie's trail after almost capturing her in Maine. There's a shootout at Orin's engagement party. Emma turns herself in to the Pinkertons to try to stop the bloodshed. There's another shootout at an inn. Tom Horn is killed. Emma asks Lizzie to spare an injured Orin and Bat (and she does). Looks like Lizzie is getting soft in her old age.
The sisters board a ship. They'll start a new life in Paris. Lizzie lays down for a nap, Emma hightails it to dry ground. As the ship sails away Lizzie and Emma stare at each other. A single tear falls from Lizzie's eye. Emma turns and fades into the crowd. Emma has had enough (and who can blame her)?
Partial Body Count List-- 27 confirmed by Lizzie at her mother's grave during episode 6. Here's the ones we know about:
- Mr Borden
- Mrs Borden (Lizzie's stepmother, not her birth mother)
- Brother Will
- William Almy
- Nance's brother Spencer
- Mr Flowers
- Adele
- Nance- that one was a complete shock
- Next door neighbor Mrs Kenney (she was mean to her dog)
- Perry (the photographer who helped Lizzie locate Spencer's body)
- Isabel (love interest of Siringo)
- Baby Benjamin- Emma believes Lizzie killed him
- Trotwood- Emma's fiance
- Skipjack
- Hilliard- killed by Siringo but I'm still counting him
- Siringo- killed by Emma but I'm still counting him
- I assume Lizzie did not kill her birth mother Sarah Borden
- Emmett's father- Emmett killed his stepfather and mother
- Dumb Cumberland journalist
- Dr Voss (ie Dr Mustache)- killed by Emma
- At least one guest at Orin's engagement party is killed by the Pinkertons.
- Tom Horn is killed at the inn. Some other guy dies. I'm not sure about Brendan. After all that blood on the wall it looks like he's a goner. Orin and Bat are badly injured but Lizzie does not stab them (at Emma's request).
Favorite Quotes:
- Brendan Trotwood: "Which leg should I break?" Aideen: "Surprise me".
- "None of us can help the family we're born into"- Emma to a Trotwood son.
- "I was being coy. I know quite a bit about Lizzie Borden. But she obviously doesnt know a thing about Aideen Trotwood. Stay away from me. Stay away from Emma. Stay away from Boston."- Aideen to Lizzie.
- "Nobody sleeps tonight"- Mother Trotwood after her house got shot up.
- "Tell Siringo no hard feelings" to Tom the Pinkerton detective right before killing him.
- "She's no one"- Emma to the Trotwoods about Lizzie. Ouch! That hurt.
- "We're all monsters"- Lizzie to Emma.
Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). The last two episodes were fun but they should have ended with episode 6 and Emma axing Siringo (as had originally been planned). Now that would have been a finale! What are the odds of seeing Lizzie next year terrorizing the people of Paris? That would be hilarious. Lizzie can hack her away across Europe (and see all the sights in the process). As long as Christina Ricci is back, I'll be back too.
