Gotham Episodes 17-18 Reviews: The Eyes Have It

"Gotham" left us with two great episodes leading into the break. They'll be back in April. The show has had it's issues but it seems to have hit it's stride recently. "Gotham" is best when it tells the stories of it's colorful (and in many cases morally bankrupt) citizens.

I Wonder Where They Got Their Name?

Episode 17 "Red Hood"

The "Red Hood" gang is robbing banks and then flinging money into the streets to ensure their escape. I'm all for it. Mental note: Dont put on the mask. Sure it might be a fun for a while but it's all down hill after that.

Do Not Mess With Fish Or She'll Spoon You

We've seen Fish rise through the ranks of her underground prison. Now she meets the manager. His boss is the Dollmaker. He is conducting medical experiments using the body parts of his captives (and he selling a few too). That is very creepy. But worse yet, he decides he wants Fish's eye. In a surprise move, Fish scoops out her own eyeball with a spoon and then stomps in into the ground so he cant use it. Wow, I didnt see that coming. I knew she was a bad ass but that is completely over the top. And I loved it!

Alfred Is One Cool Cucumber

An old friend of Alfred's (Reginald) shows up at Wayne Manor. He later stabs Alfred. Oh no! Alfred cant die, can he? It turns out Reggie is working for Wayne Enterprises. I guess they didnt like the speech Bruce gave last week.

Penguin runs out of liquor at the club. Butch proves that he's nobody's trained monkey.

Episode 18 "Everyone Has a Cobblepot"

Fish is recovering quickly from her recent "spooning". She meets the Dollmaker (Dr Dulmacher) and wants to be partners. She gets a new eyeball (it's very blue). Fish is later sent back to the dungeon where she lets more prisoners be taken away for experimentation. She is called a traitor but reminds them that she said not everyone would survive.

Meanwhile Alfred quickly recovers from his wounds. Bruce visits and reads to him. How sweet. Cat makes an appearance. Those two kids are so cute together.

Everyone In This Town Is Corrupt

Commissioner Loeb has a secret. His crazy daughter is hidden away because she previously killed her mother (or maybe she witness him kill her mother, I'm not sure). Either way the woman is cuckoo because she makes necklaces out of dead birds (after she crushes them).

The Hairdo Should Tell Ya She's Crazy (Not To Mention The Dead Bird Necklaces)

Nygma gets spurned by Kristen Kringle yet again. She has a new boyfriend. How long before Nygma permanently cracks? Harvey Dent reappears to help out Gordo.

Beware Of Kindly Older Couples

Later the kindly couple (read sarcasm here) who took care of Miriam are at Penguin's club. She wants them to fight. The winner gets a ticket out of town. The woman kills her partner only to then be shot by Penguin. Life is rough in "Gotham" indeed.

A bunch of stuff happened with the corrupt police force but that's really the weakest story line so I dont care.

What is Babs up to these days? She started a strange friendship with Cat. That woman needs to find some people her own age (preferably Rene).

If Only I Had A Private Island Where I Could Conduct Medical Experimentation

In the last scene, it is revealed that the Dollmaker's mansion is on an island...somewhere.

Favorite Quotes:
  • "You've had me as an enemy. Wouldnt you rather have me as a friend?"- Fish after she scooped out her own eyeball.
  • "Everyone has a cobblepot" (meaning a big secret and most likely it involves murder)

Jim's Cobblepot Is Cobblepot

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). I really enjoyed these two episodes. You can bet Fish's eyeball scoop will be on this year's top 10 shocking moments on TV. Let's hope "Gotham" keeps up the craziness when it returns in April. There are only four episodes left till the end of the season.
