How To Get Away With Murder Epis 11-15 Reviews: The Killer Is Revealed To Be... (Season Finale)

I have been remiss in posting reviews for "How to Get Away With Murder" so I'm catching up now. Below are the abbreviated versions. I dont spend much (if any time) on the "case of the week". Let's be honest. I dont really care about them. I only tune in for the whole Annalise, Sam, Lila, Bonnie, Frank, Nate, Rebecca, Keating Five mess.

You Do Not Want To Have Hannah As An Enemy

Episode 11: "Best Christmas Ever"
Annalise has been hiding from Sam's sister Hannah. She arrives upon hearing Sam was missing and charged with murder. Hannah doesnt believe anything Annalise said so she's working on her own investigation (much to Annalise's chagrin). She also learns of Annalise's boyfriend.  Meanwhile the Keating Four did not have a great winter break. Wes continues to have nightmares. Connor keeps trying to woo Oliver but he's holding firm. Michaela says she had a wonderful time with her fiance but we see otherwise. She's on the verge of a nervous breakdown. In what I thought was the most interesting of the stories, Laurel goes home. Her family is all around the table. Did you know she was Latina? I must have missed that. Anyway she's being a jerk and her father calls her out and tells her to leave... so back to school she goes. I think there is much more to Laurel than meets the eye.

Nate Should Run Screaming Away From These People

Episode 12: "She's A Murderer"
Sam's remains are discovered. Hannah is still out to get Annalise. Bonnie suspects the truth. Annalise is interrogated by the police. Nate is charged with the murder of Sam (because Frank broke into his house and took a fingerprint and put it on Sam's ring in the woods). Man this is getting complicated. The Keating Four are getting freaked now that Nate is in jail for a crime they committed.  Annalise calls her mom.

Now That Is Great Acting People!

Episode 13: "Mama's Here Now"
Annalise's mom Ophelia shows up (and she's as much of a force of nature as Annalise). Incidentally who knew Annalise's real name was Anna Mae? It is revealed that Annalise was raped as a child by her uncle. Her mother killed him but setting the house on fire with him in it. That woman doesnt mess around. I like her! Bonnie and Asher knock boots again. We find out Rebecca lied about Rudy. Rudy is institutionalized and in a near catatonic state. When Wes and Laurel visit (pretending to be his family), Rudy says the word "wet" (indicating he knows something about Lila's murder).

Is Rebecca The Killer Or Just A Run Of The Mill Jerk?

Episode 14: "The Night Lila Died"
Did Rebecca actually kill Lila? I always suspected she did (cause she's shifty). We see some of what transpired the day Lila was killed. Rebecca and Lila fight. Lila doesnt want to be her friend anymore. Rebecca hightails it to Griffin's place. While there she texts Lila from his phone asking her to come over. Of course this is all done so she can find Rebecca and Griffin having sex. Lila says she doesnt want to see either of them ever again. In the present, Rebecca returns home to find the Keating Four. They quiz her but she wont answer them. She threatens to tell the cops they killed Sam. They tie her up in the bathroom and call Annalise.

Episode 15: "It's All Your Fault"
In a hell of a finale, Annalise makes the students present why they think Rebecca killed Lila. Meanwhile Rebecca is tied up in the basement. In the end Annalise doesnt believe them and still thinks Sam killed Lila. They go to untie Rebecca but she is gone. The Keatings leave. Rebecca is not really gone though. She is dead under the stairs. Both Annalise and Frank think the other did it. If it's not Frank or Annalise, then one of the Keating Four must be responsible. And in a flashback we FINALLY see what happened to Lila. We knew previously that Lila tried to visit Annalise the night of her murder but was turned away by Bonnie. Sam later meets Lila and tells her loves her and that he will divorce Annalise. He leaves but calls Frank and tells him to murder Lila. Sam has some info that he is using to blackmail Frank. What could that be? Rebecca later finds Lila's body (as she said previously) and put her in the water tank. So we have solved one murder and now have a new one to solve.

In other news, we know that Rebecca texts "Eggs 911, lawyers house" before her death. I'm not sure what that means. Oliver reveals to Conner that he is HIV positive so we'll see more of that story next year. Before her death, Rebecca reveals that she gave "Purple X" (PCP) to Rudy and that's what caused him to lose him mind. She wanted to make sure he didnt go to the police when she came home wet the night Lila was killed.

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). I LOVED the first season of "How To Get Away With Murder". It is one of the best shows currently on television.

Did you guess Lila's murderer? My money was on Rebecca but of course we were purposefully lead in that direction. Who do you think killed Rebecca? Was it Wes? Frank already killed at least one person so it wouldnt be a far stretch. It probably someone that we would never suspect... like Bonnie. I have always suspected she's bad shit crazy. Or Wes? I have never bought her innocent puppy dog exterior. Or how about Asher? He is the only core character not directly involved in all this mess. What would be super is if Annalise had successfully orchestrated everything we've see and then comes off smelling like a rose.

Annalise's mom (played by the always fabulous Ms Cecile Tyson) was a great addition to the show. It was terrific to see the always in control Annalise taken down a few pegs by her straight talking mama.

And what's up with Annalise's relationship with Wes? I continue to think that he is her son? She treats him with tenderness while she spits venom at everyone else. Remember when Annalise was talking to her mom and she said "what have I nurtured in my life"? This leaves the path wide open for a great storyline next year.

I've said it before but Viola Davis is a force to be reckoned with. She is the best part of this show (although I really like the supporting cast too). I am in awe of Annalise (or should I call her Anna Mae) each time she walks on screen.

Will the show be able to keep up it's momentum in season two? It will be a tricky act to pull off since its basically a "who done it". Hopefully they will continue to spend most of their time on the core characters and use the "case of the week" as filler.
