Helix Season 2 Episode 10 Review: The Mother Lode

"Mother" opens with Julia and Amy chucking dead bodies onto a giant bonfire. Julia wants to find "Mother" (the missing root Michael used to make all the men on the island sterile). Amy says she'll give it to her ONLY IF Julia makes her immortal.

Kyle continues to hallucinate. He has two days to live if they dont find the red sap. Soren suggests that Alan just take Kyle to the bleeding tree. Duh, ya think?

One Seriously Screwed Up Family

Sister Anne tells Julie that Landry is her son. Say what??? Oh dear. Given Amy and his dalliances previously that's disgusting. Amy tries to find out the whereabouts of Mother from the comatose and severely disfigured Landry. She tells Sarah to fix Landry or her baby is d-e-a-d. Landry later attacks Sarah and flees to the church bell tower-- Quasimodo style. He has Mother in a box. Meanwhile Amy has a bratty screaming fit. That was great fun to watch.

Is Peter the new Michael?

I originally thought Anne was a mousy brainwashed follower but after this episode I may have to reevaluate my opinion. She goes on and on about Peter being a leader. She wants to make sure he's ready to "accept his truth". What does he want more than anything else? Apparently it's "respect". Anne takes Peter to the basement. First stop is the teeth barrel. Next she shows him the disgusting baby breeding factory. These are women who refused to follow Michael. They had their teeth pulled so they couldnt bite through their feeding tubes. Once they give birth to a child for Michael, they are killed. Anne encourages Peter to slit the wrists of one of the women. Anne then puts her baby is his arms. So is Peter taking Michael's place? I'm not sure where we're going here.

Julia Doesnt Have Time To Waste. She's Trying to Save Mankind People!

Julia tells Sarah about Ilaria and Narvik. Sarah shows Julia the immortal fetus in a bottle. They agree to work together. Julia comes up with a plan to get Mother from Amy and save humanity. Julia will implant the baby into Amy (thus making her immortal). Sarah obviously is not happy with this idea. What's to stop Amy from killing the fetus (who I still believe is Caleb) once she becomes immortal? That girl is obviously very unstable.

Amy tries to stab Sergio. She stashes his hand instead. She then licks off the blood--freaky. Amy takes Sergio to the bell tower where he is promptly attacked by Landry. They wrestle. Landry plummets to the ground. Sergio hangs on by his fingernails. Evil Amy stomps his fingers and Sergio falls as well. Sergio cant die that easily, can he" He is immortal after all. I would not be surprised if Quasi-Landy was still alive too. Amy takes Mother and runs off.

Kyle Is Not Looking So Good

Commander Winger and crew are finally able to communicate with their team on the ship. Things are getting much worse there. They hear fighting and someone repeatedly says "we all sound the same under water". I have no idea what that means. Kyle almost throws Soren off a cliff but Alan talks him down. They locate the Bleeding Tree.

Favorite Quotes:
  • "I only want one thing... to see the world through silver eyes"- Amy to Julia.
  • "Last thing we need in the world is Forever Amy"- Sergio upon hearing about Amy's demand to be made immortal. Best line of this episode!
  • "I thought you were a good man until I realized there was nothing inside. You're hollow Peter."- Julia to Peter.
  • "Just fix him or else."- Amy to Sarah about Landry.
  • "In order to hear the truth, you first must speak your own truth."- Anne to Peter.
  • "At some point you have to decide which kind of man you want to be-- one who fears and one who inspires fear?"- Anne to Peter.

Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). "Mother" provided lots of fun twists and turns this week. Did you guess that Landry was Amy's brother? Are Landry and Sergio really dead? Will Amy become immortal once she has a bun in the oven? There are only three episodes left for us to find out the answers to these and all the other open questions. Next week is titled "Plan B" so I'm not sure if Julia's initial idea to impregnate Amy worked without complications.

  2. Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. How are you liking season 2 of "Helix" thus far? I cant decide. It has it's great moments and then it goes completely off the rails at other times. I can definitely say there's nothing quite like it on TV.
