The Returned Season 2 Episode 4: How Virgil Fits Into The Puzzle

"Virgil" opens 35 years in the past. He is a bad kid who has a proclivity for stealing. Milan visits Virgil's parents and says he will put the boy back on the straight and narrow. In the next scene, it's night time. Virgil returns home and finds two old people. He initially doesnt recognize his parents. His father forces him from the house. It is later revealed that they killed themselves upon his return.

Simon takes baby Nathan over to the Deadie side of town. The police think Adele harmed the baby since she's cray cray. Two of the returned take care of the baby. It begins to concern Simon when Lucy tells him that couple is actually his parents. They think the baby is Simon. After Simon has a vision of his father shooting his mother, he takes Nathan back to Adele and tells her to leave with the baby ASAP.

It looks like Lena will survive Milan's stabbing. Remember Serge carried her across the lake last week. Claire runs next door in search for bandages for her. She meets the guy who carried her home after her beatdown by the bad zombies.

Virgil teaches Camille  that the returned have special psychic powers. She sees how he died. He was locked in the basement of Milan's house. A young Serge helps Virgil escape only to have Milan fill him full of holes later. He even shoots a dead Virgil again as Serge is forced to watch. In present day, Milan is locked in the same basement. Serge opens the door. Milan says if Serge helps, he will not be pushed. Serge doesnt say a word and shoots Milan again.

Julie goes back to her trashed apartment. I'm not sure if she is alive or returned at this point. She sees Victor's drawings including Milan killing people. Julie visits an older woman who gives her the lay of the land. She says Milan was a good man who protected the community. Everyone was afraid of Louis/Victor because they thought he was the devil and cause the dam to burst. That's why Milan had him killed.

Berg takes Jerome home after he passed out drunk at the cafe. He sees Jerome's wall of conspiracy. Berg is looking for his father. He says that after the flood 35 years ago, many of the people in the hills who were spared began dying violent deaths. The men move a dresser and find yet more of Louis' drawings about all the events that have occurred-- the murders, the bus crash, etc.

A number of men descent into the crevasse to determine the cause of the strange images from the robot camera. They find bones of all sorts of animals. Looks like we'll have to wait till next week to find out what else.

Pierre continues to be a jerk to Toni. His response to the returned has changed 180 degree since last year. Serge breaks Toni out of the basement of The Helping Hand.

Lucy and some men visit Milan. They take him out in the middle of the lake. Milan tells Lucy he loves her. Lucy says "I forgive you". They then throw the bound man into the lake and weigh him down with a heavy object. I'm still not sure that will do it since Milan is super hard to kill.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). Not as many reveals as last week but still a good solid episode. Everyone in this town is related in a untold number of ways.
