The Returned Season 2 Episode 3: Morgane Is One Of The Best Episodes In The Series

"Morgane" may have be the strongest episode thus far this season (if not in the entire series). It provides a number of reveals (and even more mysteries). I've listed them below by character name:

Lucy and Morgane:
"Morgane" opens 35 years earlier. Lucy and some guy (she doesnt know his name till later) are having sexy times in a shed in the mountains. A violent storm approaches. They run home. The two are on the road on top of the dam when it begins to rupture. They barely escape. The water heads straight for the unsuspecting village below. Lucy walks by a number of people staring down at the disaster. Mr and Mrs Costa, Milan, Victor's family and several others are there. Milan asks Lucy to come with him. Bad idea! Morgane later confronts Milan at a bar. He wants to know what happened to Lucy. We see a young Serge and Toni playing a game. Milan's men beat Morgane and throw him in the basement with a decomposing Lucy. Milan says "She's saved now. I washed her of all her sins". Is Milan killing all the promiscuous women in town? Or maybe he just likes killing women in general. In present day, Morgane arrives with the latest batch of Deadies. He's very quiet and emotionless (as some are). Lucy is horrified at the thought of Milan finding them.

Julie:
Victor's brother Paul returns from the dead. Now their family is complete except for the father (who we know is lying in a coma nearby). Victor turns vicious and tells Julie she should leave. He doesnt need her anymore. In fact he never needed her. She is alone. He also throws in that it's good that she lost her baby due to Serge's attack. Uh, what baby? She sorrowfully leaves and then walks into the flood waters. Is she gong to kill herself? Nooo!

Claire, Camille, Audrey, and Esteban:
Audrey and Esteban have lots of  questions after finding out they are dead. Claire blurts out to Esteban that his parents committed suicide. He obviously doesnt take the news well and runs off. Claire scuffles with her mom (who is still badly beaten and wants everyone to stay inside). The mystery kid we saw last week (his name is Virgil) joins Camille as they watch over Esteban. Virgil reveals that the emotionless/speechless zombies guarding the area are that way because no one was waiting for them when they came home. He also tells her that he was born in 1957.

Lena, Serge and Milan:
As you recall from last week, Lena went to Serge's place to ask Camille and Claire's whereabouts. Really bad idea! Milan tells Serge he must take Lena to the clearing and kill her. Serge resists but he's no match for Milan. It looks like Serge shoots Lena but it's a fake out. Milan knows his son is lying and stabs her. He tells Serge to either "leave her to bleed to death or finish her off". Serge instead shoots his father in the chest. Yeah! I would be really happy but we all know Milan will be back (and probably meaner than ever). Serge carries Lena to Camille's house on the Deadie side of town. It's not looking good for her as her mother and sister try to help her. Is Lena the next to die?

Simon and Adele:
Adele continues to carry on about her baby. Her oldest child Chloe thinks she's nuts and I do too. Chloe and the baby have some sort of psychic connection. She sings a song to it that Simon wrote. She names the baby Nathan (which is what Simon wanted to name her had she been a boy). This is the one part of the story that I find lagging. We've seen enough of Adele moping around. Get on with it already. Luckily when Simone arrives she has warmed up to baby Nathan a little. It is laying on the bed white she sleeps.

The Police:
The twenty bodies found tied to trees last week have been taken down. It is reveled that they all died of gunshot wounds. However, one of the police officers is missing. Is it Thomas or Laure? And if its Laure, she might want to reveal herself to Julie stats before she drowns.

Toni and Pierre:
Toni is still locked in the basement of the Helping Hand. The men rough him up. Pierre wants to know where the other Deadies are. I dont think Toni has any idea. Give the poor man something to eat. He must be famished after dying.

Berg:
Berg and team continue to investigate what happened with the dam. They use an underground camera to check the crater that Berg discovered. They glimpse something that looks like a human down there. Say what?

Grade: 5 Monsters (out of 5). Perfection! The CGI of the dam rupturing was excellent (especially for TV). The eerie mood (which comes from filming outside scenes only during the 10 minutes before and/or after dusk) is extremely effective. The reveals and mysteries keep on coming.  I definitely did not foresee the Lucy/Milan connection. "The Returned" continues to be one of the best shows on television.
