Agents Of SHIELD Season 3 Episodes 2-7 Reviews: Simmons Is Stealing The Show This Season
Just checking up on "AoS". I continue to enjoy the show. The threats to the inhumans and the attempts to combat Hydra continue to be compelling. What I'm liking most though this season is the Simmons/Fitz ship. Elizabeth Henstridge and Ian de Caestecker are seriously knocking it out of the park (especially Henstridge).
Episode 2: "Purpose In The Machine"- May has been on leave from SHIELD to take care of her father who was injured in a car accident. Hunter tracks her down. With her father's encouragement, she and Hunter go off to fight the new Hydra. Meanwhile Ward has recruited Werner von Strucker to join him. Fitz continues to tirelessly work to free Simmons from the Kree monolith. He finally jumps into the portal (Daisy unlocked it with her quakes) and brings Simmons back.
Episode 3: "A Wanted (In)Human"- Lincoln is on the run as the ATCU notifies the police and news agencies that he's a "potential alien threat". He goes to his only friend John but the guy dies of a heart attack. Lincoln is not able to save him by using his electrical powers as an improvised defib. To protect Daisy, Coulson turns Lincoln in to the ATCU and agrees to work with Rosalind Price to capture the rest of inhumans. Hunter and May infiltrate Hydra. Hunter has to kill his friend Spud in order to prove his worthiness to the higher-ups. May beats up three guys and suggests they dont tell anyone that "a tiny Asian lady" kicked their asses. Poor Simmons struggles with being back on Earth. Even the sound of the shower bothers her. In a very sweet moment, Fitz takes Simmons on the dinner date they had planned before she was whisked off. Simmons breaks down though. It's all too much for her. At the end of the episode Jemma announces to Bobbi that she has to return to the blue planet. In other couple news, Daisy and Lincoln may become a "thing" since they share a kiss and secretly talk on the phone.
Episode 4: "Devils You Know"- The inhuman this week is the multiplying woman that we saw a while back. Dr Andrew Garner (May's ex hubbie who she still has feelings for) is killed by Ward/Hydra (or so we think). Hunter definitely didnt waste any time seeking revenge for Bobbi's beat down last year. Daisy sees Lash revert back to human form but she doesnt know who he transformed into. Coulson and Price and still making googly eyes at each other.
Episode 5: "4,722 Hours"- This episode was all about Jemma and her time on whatever blue planet the monolith sent her to. Elizabeth Henstridge carries most of the episode alone and is later joined by a mystery man named Will. They later fall in love. That's why she wants to return. I really enjoyed this episode. I wish Simmons and Will could have spent more time together though. I enjoyed their chemistry-- although I shutter to think what this means to the FitzSimmons ship. To be honest, I would prefer Skimmons instead but it doesnt look like that will happen.
Episode 6: "Among Us Hide"- And as most people predicted, Gardner is NOT dead. May is back with SHIELD and she's ready to kick ass. Bobbi proves she's mission ready after she and May have an epic girl fight. This episode included two more great battles for them (one in a bank against security guards and another against the baddies from Hydra). I also enjoyed the comic relief in the bank scene where the two speak Chinese to each other. Great fun. More of the same please!
Episode 7: "Chaos Theory"- We finally learn the identity of Lash. It's... wait for it... it's Dr Garner. That's an interesting twist. It also turns out he's not part of some larger agenda. He just inhaled some dust that makes him want to kill inhumans. That's kind of a letdown. I thought he would be working with Price. May ends up shooting Lash/Andrew a few times but it doesnt hurt him. She then agrees that he needs to be put in ATCU stasis until they can find a cure. I'm sure we'll see Garner again at some point. Fitz repairs Simmon's SIM card on her phone and know his feelings for her are reciprocated. Another great scene! Rosalind and Phil finally do the deed (and we see the aftermath the next morning). I still dont completely trust Price but it's nice to see Coulson happy for a while.
Grade: 4 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). I give "4,722 Hours" a 5. I think season 3 of "SHIELD" is much improved over the previous two. The plot lines are better and the characters are more interesting. I still prefer shorter seasons but if they are all as good as these I will stop complaining.
