Geez, How About A Little Personal Space Eleanor!
As we near the end of "The Bridge" pretty much everyone on the show is in peril. Here's what happened in "Quetzalcoatl" as the scenes are set for the season 2 (and possible series) finale next week.
Eleanor (who is the best thing about season 2 IMHO) has been set loose by the CIA. She is supposed to finishing "cleaning up" and then she was promised she'd get her father (the acorn eater) back. The CIA is apparently using Eleanor to get intel on both Galvan and Cerisola. Eleanor and everyone else including CIA agent Buckley (ie the "guppy killer") knows Sonya has the ledger. What they dont know is she has cracked the code.

Galvan Is A Very Courteous Kidnapper... Not
Marco (like some big dummy) goes to see Galvan (who of course has Cerisola's daughter). The Marines are close behind. Marco gets thrown in the barn with Romina. Galvan calls the Marines who say they can have safe passage out. The car drives past them and they fill it full of bullet holes (so much for keeping their word). I guess they dont care about killing innocent hostages either. But when the Marines open the door of the car, Galvan is not in it. He has escaped with Marco and Romina into the mountains.

I Think Marco Will Survive. He Is A Main Character After All.
Frye and Adriana get some intel from McKenzie's house. Hank leaves the hospital with Sonya. All four of them finally meet up and review what we know so far. They agree to collaborate. The CIA is working WITH Galvan while the DEA is trying to bust him. Why? We do not have the full scoop yet but it appears the CIA wants Galvan out and Cerisola in (for the time being). The reporters next visit one of Frye's contacts with the customs seal they found in the desert. They want to know which companies use them to cross the border without being searched. Bribing is necessary.

Will These Kids Get A Happy Ending?
Linder goes to Captain Robies' office. He's still carrying around a rock. Linder leaves a message for the Captain. "No man can run from his past". When asks who he is, Linder says "I'm his past". Ha, that man always has a way with words. Eva imagines a quiet life with Linder. Someone (sorry I dont know his name) confronts Robies and tells him its over. He has him for conspiracy and corruption (and rape I assume). At night Linder sneaks back to the trucking company. They are loading drugs into the trucks (and putting the same seal on the back that Sonya found). Linder tries to attack Robies but he shoots Linder first. Remember last week when Linder said he didnt want to shave his heard off because it was his strength? Yep, boys and girls. That's called foreshadowing. Will Linder die or wil l he make a super fast recovery like Hank did?

We Sure Do A Lot Of Wandering Around In The Desert On This Show
Hank and Sonya wait at the border crossing at night (remember Sonya learned that Eleanor's ledger codes were actually GPS locations). Sure enough, truck arrives and they change drivers. Hank and Sonya follow them. What is the plan now cause I dont think following drug trucks around in the dark is a good idea.
My favorite scene of the episode is when Eleanor confronts Monte at the boot repair shop. He had gone there to get the blood out of his boots after the recent massacre. Eleanor asks how he has gotten this far unscathed (and she was almost killed). Meanwhile she is fingering the sharp boot tools. It looks like she's contemplating stabbing him. Monte slowly shows her his pistol and replies "I provide good counsel. I'm punctual. I work hard." OK then. I guess punctuality is really important to drug dealers. Who knew? Also Monte, the woman is two inches away from you. You really should have your gun drawn (and not in its holster) if you plan to defend yourself at that close range.
Favorite Quotes:
- "You ever spit in the ocean?"- Hank. "Why would I spit in the ocean?"- Sonya.
- "No man can run from his past."- Linder.
- When Eleanor asks Monte how he has gotten this far unscathed, he says "I provide good counsel. I'm punctual. I work hard."
- "The world can only bear so much before a sundrance."- Linder about Robies.
- "Frye was right. This is dirty. Its all dirty."- Hank about the CIA working with Galvan.
Grade: 3 1/2 Monsters (out of 5). Everything is in place for the finale. Will we be disappointed next week? I'm hoping all hell breaks loose. But let's be honest, the imprisonment/deaths of any (or all) of these characters isnt going to slow the flow of drugs across the border. They should all retire to nice quiet lives far away from El Paso/Juarez instead.
