For God's Sake Ben, Put Some Clothes On!

Welcome back SleepyHeads! Doesnt it seem like a long time since we last saw Abbie and Ichy? On "This Is War" we join them on Ichabod's 251st birthday. Abby has difficulty trying to convince him to make a wish. Ichy calls her "Leftentant". Those two kids are just as adorable as ever. They allude to having lost loved ones. Are Jenny and Katrina dead? That cant be true.

Yes You Only Get One Candle. I'm Not Spending All Friggin Day Putting 251 Candles On A Cake.

It should come as no surprise that Ichabod was Ben Franklin's apprentice. That man was seriously connected in Colonial America. Ben has the Gehenny Key (the key to purgatory). He was trying to destroy it during his famous kite flying adventure that lead to the discovery of electricity. Without the key, for someone to leave purgatory, another person has to take his/her place. And remember at the end of last season Abbie was stuck in purgatory. Moloch wants the key so he can get his Purgatory army to Sleepy Hollow to bring about the end of the world.

I dont know about you but I prefer my Ben Franklin completely clothed. I still havent been able to get the thought of a nude Ben out of my head. Not sure what that is about.

Henry, You Sir Are A Jerk!

As the episode continues I'm seriously confused. It wasnt until I saw Henry the Sin Eater (AKA Ichy and Katrina's son Jeremy AKA War the second horseman of the Apocalypse) tending plants in the basement that I knew the jig was up. He was supposedly imprisoned there. Nope its all an illusion by Henry/Moloch to get the key. Everything is as we last left it in season 1. Ichy is still buried in a box. Abby is still stuck in purgatory. Katrina is still being held captive by HH (headless horseman). Moloch is still trying to take over the world.

I Hope We See Lots More Of Jenny This Season. She Is A Serious Badass.

Jenny and Ichy realize thanks to Ben's code that the key is hidden in the Ben Franklin statue. Oops too late. Those damn Hessians. But have no fear. The key isnt really there. Ichy remembers one of Ben's sayings "The key to success lies under the alarm clock" (or in this case the clock tower). Stupid question, but did they have alarm clocks back then?

Jenny and Ichy get to the spot where they can cross over to Purgatory. There's another Ichy and he's trying to get Abbie to drink from his canteen (remember if you eat/drink in Purgatory you're stuck there forever). Uh he's a baddy. He calls Abbie lieutenant (instead of leftenant). Off with his head. They escape and the key disintegrates. Everyone is back in Sleepy Hollow and safe (until next week).

Lets Just Ignore That Zombie In The Background

Random Thoughts:
  • It was good to see Officer Andy (even if he is still in Purgatory). Not sure if he'll appear again since he's on a new show "Selfie".
  • Someone really should teach Ichabod how to drive. It's a skill he might need later.
  • There were no sightings of Captain Irving this week. Will he be back?
  • I continue to love how this show takes history and turns it on its ear. I just hope the young folk dont start believing it is true. No Ichabod Crane and Ben Franklin were not fighting the Four Hourseman of the Apocalypse.

Favorite Quotes:
  • "I shall consider myself punk'd"- Ichy is proud of himself for being hip to the slang.
  • "Anyone can be tricked into believing a lie"- Henry the Sin Eater.
  • "Ive done a lot of sinning. I hope you choke on every one of them"- Jenny to Henry when he tries to read her sins to find the key.
  • Ichabod doesnt hold Ben Franklin in high regard. He refers to him as a "blowhard, braggart, blatherskite (whatever that is) and gasbag".
  • "Youre coming back no matter what I say, arent you?"- Abbie to Ichy about being stuck in Purgatory. Ah, how sweet.

Grade: 4 Monsters (out of 5). A fun season opener. I continue to love the crazy world of "Sleepy Hollow". Not sure I'll recap it every week but I'll definitely be watching.
